Message from Principal Ready
Dear Families,
I hope the start of this fall season finds you well and in a healthy routine. The weather sure has let us know that fall is here to stay! I hope that you find time together to enjoy the things you love ahead of what usually is a busy season. It’s also a good time to reflect on the first few months of learning. Take time to celebrate how far your learner has come and reflect on the growth that has taken place even as we rebound from a far-from normal few years in education. Thank you for your collaboration and effort you are making to support your learners at home. Our staff is also supporting this growth and is keenly aware of unfinished learning (both socially and academically) and are responsive to this need with strategies and targeted support and focused on growth. They also have this message: keep working hard wonderful wildcats!
A few important reminders:
Report cards will be shared at your conference. Conferences are November 17-24 Please see the schedule below for our dismissal times. Please watch for a sign-up from your child’s teacher which will be sent before November 10. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher by November 10 please email them. Just as staff have a lens to growth please be aware that some students have started the year with more unfinished learning and have further to grow to reach standard. This is all part of our work this year!
This month we are focusing on gratitude with our Wildcats. A paper leaf will be in your child’s backpack. You are invited to reflect on what you are grateful for as a family. Please return the leaf by November 10!
Just as we take time to celebrate this is also a time of year when emotions can be tough. We are including some resources to support wellness at home. This includes some information from our school counselor, Leanne Rollet.
As always please reach out to let us know how we can better support you during this time.
With Gratitude,
Melanie Ready

Yearbook Cover and Color Information
It is that time again where YOU have the opportunity to design and color this year's cover for our school yearbook! If you would like to design a cover, you can get a design form from the office starting on Monday, October 18. Your design must fill the entire space and be colored to enter. Be sure to include Lake Wilderness Elementary School and the school year, 2021-2022, in your design.
Don't forget to fill out the information on the back of the form as well so we know which design is yours!
Our staff is so excited to see the great designs you have for this year's yearbook. When you finish your design, turn it in to your teacher or the front office no later than Wednesday, November 10.
Good luck Wildcats!

Conversations about school
Research shows that supporting your child’s education at home is very important. Here are conversation starters that will help you stay involved.
“Let’s see what you brought home.”
Look at completed work to find out what your youngster is learning and how well they are doing. You could comment on their work, “You know a lot about our state’s history!” Also, respond to notes from their teacher, and sign things that are required.
- “Show me what you have for homework.”
It’s your child’s job to do their homework, but you play a role, too. Make sure they know what is expected by having your child explain the assignments to you. After they finish, glance over the work to see that it’s complete. Getting into this habit young, really helps students in the future.
- “Describe a book you enjoyed today.”
This gives you an idea of what your child prefers to read. Then, build a daily reading habit by asking what they’d like to read tonight. Encourage reading and listening skills by reading aloud and letting them read to you.
- “Tell me what you learned that you’d like to know more about.”
Use interests as jumping off points for activities to share. If they like geometry, you might hunt for shapes together. If they are fascinated by how animals adapt to winter, take them to the library to research the subject or to the zoo to see live animals. Encourage curiosity and learning.
After school questions: Asking “how was school today?” might not get you far. Instead ask questions like these for a better picture:
- What is the coolest thing that happened? What wasn’t so cool?
- Pretend you’re the teacher. How would you describe the day?
- What made you laugh?
- What was the most creative thing you did?
- How were you kind or helpful today? Was anyone kind or helpful to you?
Parent Teacher Conferences
You will be hearing from your child(s) teacher on or before November 10, so be on the look out for information.
Lost and Found Information
Dear Wildcats,
If your student has lost an item, the Lost and Found is now available to access after school when the students are gone Monday-Thursday between 3:20-4:00. Please check in at the Main Office and we can direct you to the Lost/Found Closet.
Our closets are starting to get full. One way to avoid that is putting your student(s) name on their clothing so our staff can deliver them when found.
