News from our SOL coordinator:
Dear ECG Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
The upcoming Spring 2017 SOL Testing Administration will soon begin. The SOL testing window is from May 5th - June 1st with expedited testing being on specific dates. Please help to make sure to schedule any doctor’s appointments on alternate days aside from the school testing dates. Students have worked very hard to prepare for testing and it is always ideal when students can test on the initial scheduled testing day with their peers. With SOL testing being linked to student graduation, we reach out to you to help support our students in being in attendance on SOL testing dates.
Students will need to be present and in their classroom by 7:35 AM each day. If a student is late when testing begins, he/she will take their test on a make-up day. If a student leaves a testing site after beginning a test, their test will be stopped and cannot be restarted or re-administered.
***Electronic Device Policy: VDOE (Virginia Department of Education) and Lynchburg City Schools have an electronic device policy to be followed during SOL testing. To maintain test security, the possession of cell phones and mobile connection devices in the testing site is prohibited. If a student is discovered with a prohibited electronic device in a testing site, the student’s test will be stopped, the device will be confiscated, and the student will be removed from the test environment. Having an electronic device in a testing site will result in a score of “0” on the test. Please speak with your child in reference to this policy.
Other testing tips:
- Make sure your student(s) get a full night’s rest the night before testing.
- Ensure your student(s) eats breakfast and complete any self-care procedures prior to testing.
- Assist students now with review of any notes or previous test materials from this year.
- Access uploaded notes from one source: https://padlet.com/bucklewke/ecgsolreview
- Remind your student(s) about leaving any phones or electronic devices home or in their locker before coming to school.
- Support your student(s) in being on time to school...5 minutes late is still late.
- During SOL testing season, give your student(s) some down/free time at home to get some brief relief from testing mode. A fun activity can help your child re-charge for the next day.
- Students should also take advantage of ANY remediation opportunities by their teachers before SOL testing. Check with teachers to ensure when they offer remediation sessions.
- Encourage your student(s) about getting through testing; we only have a few days of school left…so let’s make the most of it!
- Students that pass their SOL will be exempt from taking the exam for the course.
- Be on the lookout for our schedule of Saturday sessions. They were very beneficial to the students who came last year.

ECG Honor Pledge:
E. C. Glass High School has a tradition of honor that is maintained in many ways. Lying, cheating, and stealing will result in a variety of disciplinary actions. More importantly, these actions reflect on one’s individual integrity and diminish the quality of our school and community.
In making assignments and in giving tests, teachers must expect that the work of each individual is his/her own and the references and sources are appropriately cited. A teacher may ask that certain work be PLEDGED with the following statement:
ON MY HONOR, I HAVE NEITHER GIVEN NOR
RECEIVED HELP ON THIS TEST, EXAMINATION, OR PLEDGED WORK.
Dress Code:
Clothing should conform to standards of safety and be appropriate for the learning environment. Clothing that does not meet these standards includes the following:
• Loose fitting clothing that could cause safety hazards
• Flip-flops and other footwear that are tripping hazards or injury risks
• Clothing that exposes or highlights private areas or shows an excessive amount of bare skin
• Hats and other head coverings, unless for religious or health purposes
Additionally, disciplinary action will be taken against any student taking part in gang-related activities that are disruptive to the school environment, which include the display of any apparel, jewelry, accessory, tattoo, or manner of grooming that, by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark, or any other attribute, denotes membership in a gang that advocates illegal or disruptive behavior.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) of students requiring accommodation for religious beliefs, disabilities, or other good causes should contact the principal.
**Students not complying with this policy will be asked to cover the noncomplying clothing, change clothes, or go home.
