Good afternoon Bernie’s Community,

We have had an awesome day in the sunshine today, starting with an entertaining performance from our Year 3’s looking at caring for our world and how we can be more sustainable. I would like to thank our leaders for their very kind words on Principals Day and to our staff for the sausage rolls at recess. I have not heard of this day before, however so everyone knows, I think that I have one of the best jobs in the world because I get to spend it in such an amazing community, with the BEST students, parents and teachers ever!

Next Friday we will be holding our Cross Country Carnival and I know that our students have been training hard at school and in their own time. There is some more information below and we will also send out a reminder next week with the logistics for the day. Thanks again to Mrs Bowe, Mrs Watson and Mrs King for their hard work in organising and the parents who have volunteered to help out!

Finally, I know I speak about this regularly, however, can I please just remind everyone to be kind and respectful in all their interactions with one another. At times, there will be disagreements – we are a school of 480 students and this is inevitable, however I can’t stress the importance of keeping every interaction, discussion or communication respectful. Over the past month I have been told of several disagreements, particularly in the carpark that have become heated and stressful for all concerned. I would like to thank those who have come in to discuss their concerns calmly. As part of our CDP, we are planning to make some positive changes to the entire entry, exit and carpark to help alleviate congestion and clearly mark how to use the space safely. In the meantime, taking a breath, slowing down and being kind to everyone in the community is an shared expectation we have here at St Bernadette’s.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the sunshine!

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the green team at St Bernadette’s we are very impressed with the reduced rubbish in our school and students having nude food lunches this term. We currently have nude food lunchboxes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That is why there are no bins in the school those days and all rubbish goes home. We would like to encourage all students to have a nude food lunch everyday. We also request that NO SINGLE USE PLASTIC is brought in with school lunchboxes (cling film, zip lock bags, small yoghurt pots and food packet wrappings). Every lunch box that is free of single use plastic goes in a raffle to win prizes! If your child brings in a nude food lunch box or a lunchbox with no single use plastic, they will be given a nude food ticket during recess or lunch to go into a draw, then we will announce the nude food winners on Fridays.

How can we all pack a lunchbox that is free from single use plastic?

You can cut out all single use plastic that goes in the bin and use reusable containers instead. If you have fruit, you can cut it up and put it into a small reusable container or reusable yoghurt pouches. These little things can make a big difference to our environment and can easily be found at shops like Big W, Woolworths or Coles.

Thank you for supporting our school initiative.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches at School

A reminder to all families to please leave student mobile phones and smart watch at the front office in the mornings. These can be collected at the end of the school day.

Where parents or guardians need to contact students during the day, they should phone the school directly. We thank you in advance for your understanding and for having this conversation with your children.

Families are obliged to provide at least one term’s notice in writing of their intention to remove a child from the school, otherwise a full term’s fees may be charged.
