Avery Moments
September 11, 2020
Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year!
All teaching staff returned to Avery with our updated health and safety procedures in place on August 31 to participate in professional development and room preparations. This professional development has included the opportunities to learn new technology to enhance the remote learning expereince as well as content specific best practices for hybrid and remote learning. We were ready to welcome all of the students who would be returning into the buidling. Unfortunately, based on the recent uptick in confirmed cases of COVID 19 this return will be delayed. We are saddened by this outcome but rest assured that our teachers are continuing to work hard to prepare for the extended fully remote opening.
Regardless of our start, we will make this a great learning experience for your child.
Regards,
Clare Sullivan

Setting Up Your Child's "Remote Learning Office"
It is extremely important to set up your child's learning space before September 16. Here are a few tips to get you started.
- Carve out a space for schoolwork based on your child's age and learning style.
- Choose a quiet space where distractions are limited but is accessible to caregivers in case your child needs support.
- Be sure your child has a comfortable chair and work space.
- Organize your child's school supplies. For example a cup with writing utensils, markers, paper, etc.
- Consider hanging a small bulletin board or dedicate wall space for posting daily schedules, passwords, and other reminders.
- Test out your technology. Is your internet connection strong in the space you have chosen? Do you know how to login to your chromebook? Have you tried your passwords? If you are experiencing a technical issue, please check out the DPS Family Educational Technology Site or email home tech service at hometechservice@dedham.k12.ma.us.
What Will Remote Learning Look Like?
- The remote learning experience will be different this year.
- The school day begins at 8:45 a.m. Students are expected to log into their classroom on time as attendance will be taken. The school day ends at 3 p.m. Students are expected to attend until dismissal at 3 p.m.
- Throughtout the day there will be synchronous teaching in which the classroom teacher or a specialist will be providing direct instruction to a large or small group. There will also be times when your students will be working independently.
