Message from the Athletic Director
First and foremost, I would like to say I am very excited to even have the opportunity to create a Fall Newsletter for the athletic programs here at Lower Moreland this season!
I must thank the entire LMTSD School Board of Directors and Dr. Davidheiser for approving our plans to put together a season for our approximately 300 athletes this fall. Secondly, I must thank our coaches, who made a lot of sacrifices this fall season to help give our student athletes some sort of a season. I also would like to thank the parents and guardians of our athletes. We asked that you make sacrifices, wear masks, not travel to away games, and socially distance yourselves from your friends. You understood the protocols that were in place and did your best to follow them, allowing our athletes to continue their seasons this year.
I think as we close the chapter on the fall season and we progress into the final 2/3rds of our sports season, we must continue to carry on with our strict safety procedures that were in place this fall, throughout the winter and spring. As our Class of 2020 experienced last spring, many of their careers just ended and they didn't get an opportunity to don the blue and gold again. We have a number of athletes who still are hoping to get their seasons in this year and create a number of opportunities for themselves, both here and at the next level.
My goal remained the same throughout this fall season, to give our student athletes in grades 7-12 some sort of opportunity to play games with their classmates. I wasn't concerned with wins and losses or whether or not we made playoffs or not. I simply wanted to make sure our kids had the opportunity to play, because as we learned in the spring, we can not take anything for granted in these uncertain times.
I hope you enjoy the recap of the fall season and the important information with regards to the winter sports season here at Lower Moreland. Go Lions!

Fall Sports Wrap Up
Boys Cross Country
Heading into the SOL Freedom Division Championships, the boys needed to defeat William Tennent by more than 3 points. Hellenbrand pulled away from the pack and earned himself the SOL Freedom Divisions top honors. Now it was up to the others, and they came through. Jack Becker, Andrew Ung, Shae Woods, & Justin Sandler finished 4,5,6 & 14th respectively to give the Lions 30 points. Tennents top 5 runners scored 38 points, and the Lions secured the league championship.
At Districts the boys needed to have a repeat performance from leagues to defeat the strong Holy Ghost Prep team. The team had 3 runners finish in the top 20. Tom Hellenbrand finished in 3rd and qualified for states. Jack Becker finished 8th and Shea Woods finished 15th. Goodluck to Tom at states on Saturday November 7th.

Girls Cross Country
Heading into the SOL Championships, the girls were looking to give William Tennent a run for the league championship. Saidi finished in 3rd, followed by Ogawa in 4th and Hellenbrand in 6th. So. Anna Mazik also medaled and finished 19th in the race. The team qualified for districts on Monday November 2nd.
At Districts the girls had one of their best team finishes in a number of years, finishing 4th overall with a score of 92. The team had 3 of the top 7 runners in the race and all three qualified for states this weekend in Hershey. Freshman Ameila Ogawa finished 4th, So. Siri Hellenbrand finished 6th and Senior Leena Saidi finished 7th. Great job to all!

Field Hockey
The team swept league rivals Upper Moreland and William Tennent and continued to play well throughout the year. On the last possible play date the team faced off vs. Abington. With a win, the chances of qualifying for districts came into play. The girls got down early but came back ferociously in the 4th quarter to send the game to Overtime. The game concluded in a tie and unfortunately the team fell just short of the postseason.
Coach Mayer was extremely proud of the effort the team gave all season long. She praised the team comradery and how much the members of the team got along with each other. She is really excited to see how Lower Moreland Field Hockey continues to get stronger in the future years.

Cheerleading
There is still much uncertainty about what the competition season will look like this winter, as plans for what that will look like are still up in the air. However, the squad will have a presence at our home games this winter.
Coach praised the commitment and dedication to improve from the senior members of the team.
Class of 2021 Cheerleaders
Football
The team defeated Jenkintown 24-14 and Bristol 15-6 to close out the season. In the Jenkintown game it was a well rounded team effort and timely first downs that led to long drives and gradually wearing down the Drakes to pull away. In the final game of the year, the Lions spoiled homecoming for Bristol and got revenge for a week 2 loss. The Lions dominated the game from the 2nd quarter on and kept the Warriors off balance for the remainder of the evening. The team will look to use the momentum and carry it into the off-season and into next year.

Golf
Due to limitations on qualifiers for the SOL Championships, Bryce Fazio was the only one from the team who qualified for the league championships. Conditions were tough at 5 ponds that day, and Bryce's quest to get back to Districts came up just short.
Coach Guido praised the progress of our other senior golfer Will Klanderman. Will has made a ton of progress on the golf course over the last two years. Despite the loss of two key golfers, coach is looking forward to next year with the return of 7 of the top 9 golfers.

Girls Soccer
The girls finished the season 2-5-3 to close out the season. There were a handful of freshman and sophomores on the team who were getting their first substantial varsity time this year, which will pay off in future years for the program. Coach Gould offered much praise to his seniors Amy, Rachel, Maggie, Phoebe, Paige, & Sara. In a year in which it could have been easy to get down, they remained positive and helped foster a positive team culture.

Boys Soccer
With a strong close to the season and a solid young nucleus in place, the future is bright for the Boys Soccer squad. Coach Dominick praised the effort, dedication, and commitment to the program of the senior athletes.

Girls Tennis
The team earned the #1 seed in the District I 2A Playoffs, and defeated Villa Maria in the first round 5-0. They squared off vs. former BAL rival Delco Christian and unfortunately came up short 3-2 to conclude the team portion of the season.
Individually, Sophomore Sarah Kideckel steamrolled the competition on her way to winning the SOL Singles Championship. By winning the league championship, she automatically qualified for the District I tournament. Sarah fell short in the District Semi-Finals, but is looking forward to defending her title next year.
In doubles tennis, it was an all LM Final. Anya Yang and Lexi Moore defeated Madison Sopinsky and Erica Stone in the finals of the league tournament to automatically qualify for the District Tournament. In Districts, Anya and Lexi reached the finals after a 6-2, 6-1 semi-final win over the team from GMA. The girls came up short against a possible state power from Delco Christian.
With only 1 senior on the roster, LM Girls Tennis looks to come back even stronger next year. Coach Hausman would like to praise the commitment that lone Senior, Aryn Chartock, gave to the tennis program over her 4 years.

Field Hockey
8th Grader Ashley Avington scored a remarkable 12 goals in the 6 games this year and was one of the many bright spots for the team this season. Coach Hutchinson praised all of the athletes for their tremendous dedication to get through a difficult season.
Soccer
The girls team finished the season with a 2-2 record. Coach Crouch loved his teams enthusiasm and willingness to get better each day. He said this group of girls played some of the most entertaining soccer he has ever seen, which is pretty high praise! Coach Crouch is excited to see how the girls progress at the high school level.
The boys finished with a 0-0-2 record on their abbreviated season. The boys tied both Sandy Run and Abington. With a good mix of 8th and 7th graders Coach Dunn was happy with how the team progressed given the circumstances that surrounded the overall season.
