TGMS Scripps National Spelling Bee
Dear Families,
This year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee has developed an online testing platform that will allow Toll Gate Middle School and Gateway Academy to host a school spelling bee program, whether your children are learning in classrooms or remotely from your homes.
In place of our traditional spelling bee program, we will have the spelling bee qualifier through an online spelling test. The first step to spelling bee participation is for you to register for the Scripps National Spelling Bee's online testing platform by visiting https://online-test.spellingbee.com.
For assistance registering, we encourage you to watch this video tutorial that will walk you through the registration process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ThKRsffiFc .
Once you have registered, we will be able to assign the appropriate test to your child. The testing window will open on Sunday, January 10th at 12:00pm and will close on Sunday, January 17th at 12:00pm. Your child must complete the test during this window of time, and these tests can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones.
The 20 students with the highest scores will move on to compete at the school level. This year, our school-level competition will be administered via a live, virtual spelling bee. The Gateway Academy Bee will be on Wednesday, January 27th and the Toll Gate Middle Bee will be on Thursday, January 28th. Both tests will begin at 7:00pm.
Our school champion will then move on to represent Toll Gate Middle School or Gateway Academy in the Ohio Regional Spelling Bee program, which will include online tests and a live, virtual bee in lieu of in-person spelling bee events.
The first step to spelling bee participation is to register at https://online-test.spellingbee.com. The students must be registered by Friday, December 18th. A follow-up email will be sent to registered students the first week of January with additional testing information. If you have already registered in the online testing platform for another child, you can log in to your account and add an additional child to that same parent account. There is no need to register a different email address for each child in your household.
Please reach out to either coordinator if you have any questions about our school spelling bee program. We look forward to having your child compete to represent our school!
Sincerely,
Sharon Drummond and Emily King Spelling Bee Coordinators
