Introduction
Hey, I'm Kaylyn Chapman and now... Your finally a freshmen! This year in English 9 you will read short stories, novels, and Shakespeare. You will learn to enjoy reading. Independent reading and book talks are required. There are units on poetry and rhetoric (the study of speech).
FAVORITES
With every section there were fun activities that went along. During the Hunger games we were seperated into districts and played games to earn bonus points. We got to watch the hunger games movie, and Romeo and Juliet. We watched slam poetry and clips from the Odyssey.
Hunger games
The Hunger Games is the first novel you read as a class. Many activities are included in this section making the reading fun. If you like acton you will love the Hunger Games. After reading you get to watch the movie!
Shakespeare
You may be frightened by Shakespear, its not that difficult. The language may be hard to understand but, Mrs. Allen breaks it down. She explains and makes it easy to comprehend. Just make sure you pay attention.
Poetry
Poetry sounds boring to some but is interresting to others. It is a great way to share feelings and get emotions out. You learn how to do slam poetry. Which louder than a bomb is all about.
NOT SO FAVORITES
I struggled with shakespeare. The language was difficult and at some points the story was hard to follow. My advice to you about shakespeare is to pay attention. Try not to miss class while reading.
INDEPENDENT READING
Four independent readings are done throughout the year. You pick your own book then talk about it. It helped me start enjoying reading. I figured out which type of books I like and dislike. You may not like reading but make sure you read the book. It is a very easy way to improve your grade.
