Happy New Year!
As we enter January, we continue to face the threat of COVID 19. Although we all were prepared to leave the pandemic behind, it is clear that we aren’t there yet. Given the increase in Omicron cases, and due to the fact that many of those testing positive are asymptomatic, we will be requiring all students to test weekly, vaccinated or not.

COVID Testing
-Rapid and PCR Testing will occur at the Providence Campus from 6:30 -11 AM
-A signup sheet will go out for you to select convenient times. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A054BA5AA2BAAF85-covid
-We will return in person on Wednesday, or as soon as we receive PCR results
-All logistics are in place to test the entire school body during those hours
-Parents should wait in the car; not come into the building on Monday
-Students who are already quarantining due to being a close contact or traveling should NOT come into school for testing, but should follow the individual plan given to them at the time of quarantine
-We are requiring all to be tested before entering the building; If you chose not to have your child/children tested they will need to do asynchronous on-line learning
-The student will BE REQUIRED to do a RAPID test prior to entering the building.
-All rapid tests are processed at the school, not at a lab and only positive results are sent to RIDOH
-Moving forward, we are requiring ALL students to be tested weekly
Unless you contact us, we will assume consent for weekly testing
Attendance Matters!
In-person attendance is important. Keeping our students in school for in-person learning is important to us, and we know that it is important to you as well. Vaccinating all eligible students and their family members is the best way to keep our students in school.
As a reminder, anyone who is fully vaccinated does not need to be quarantined if they are a close contact of a positive case. Those who are not vaccinated do need to quarantine each and every time they are deemed a close contact to a positive case, and therefore, may not attend school in person.
Vaccination of eligible family members helps to keep our vaccine ineligible student populations safe and in school for in-person learning as much as possible.
Close contacts of household positive cases who are not vaccinated must isolate at home and cannot start their own quarantine time until the household case has finished theirs, which can lead to as many as 20 days at home for students if they are unvaccinated.
Keeping our students healthy and free of COVID-19 keeps their family members who may be at risk due to compromised health safer as well as they are not at as high a risk of exposing someone to the virus knowingly or unknowingly.
Student social-emotional health is important. Vaccinating helps to keep our extra activities such as sports, clubs and events beyond academics going. Our students and staff are thrilled to be able to bring these events back. Quarantine due to exposure and symptoms causes events to be canceled, games to be forfeited, and other consequences that are not good for our students who are looking for a normal school year.
Thanks to a committed group of community members lead by Highlander Charter School friend Michael Slade and many Highlander Staff and families we were able to spread the Holiday Cheers and help some Highlander families again this year during the Holidays.

Shoutouts!
From Ms. A and Ms. Megan to Ms.Claribel - Thank you for helping us with all aspects of our field trip to the Pequot Museum. You took the time to call each parent to make sure that they arrived on time, you spoke to our class to discuss appropriate behavior on the trip, and you even cleaned our classrooms after we left to make sure we came back to a clean and orderly classroom. We appreciate you so much!
From Mr.Nigro toNick, Susan, Kerri, Hellen, Oneika, & Pabst for giving time out of your schedules to come into Bryant for social studies to help me get them to succeed with writing an essay.
From Mr. Nigro to Izabella for being consistently responsible checking-in with me when you need help while working on assignments at home.
From Dr. Blanco to Jacqueline for sharing your passion project with me. It's exciting to see how it's developing.
