Our Minister - His Roles and Responsibilities
The minister of Public Safety Canada is Ralph Goodale.
His role is to lead the government's work in making sure that we are keeping Canadians safe. Safe from crime, terrorism, natural disasters, and public health emergencies.
He works closely with his collegues to ensure Canadians are protected.
The Roles and Responsibilities of the Ministry
The Ministry protects Canadians and helps to maintain a peaceful and safe society through these 4 categories:
1 ) National Security
The government of Canada protects the safety of Canadians at home and aboard.
2) Border Strategies
Public Safety Canada keeps the borders safe by making sure the right people cross and keep people out who may be a threat. They also make sure we aren't bringing anything illegal across the border.
3) Countering Crime
Public Safety Canada has programs to help prevent crime (i.e. police officers talk to students, etc), law enforcement, and helping criminals to become better citizens.
4) Emergency Management
Public Safety Canada teach communities how to protect themselves in the event of a disaster (i.e. earthquake, tornado, and terrorism). The Fire, Police, and Ambulance departments are all agencies that respond to emergencies.

How It Affects Us
Public Safety Canada teach us how to protect ourselves in case of disaster. For eg; All Canadians are encouraged to have an emergency kit of medical supplies, food, and water for at least 72 hours in case we cannot leave our homes. They have a system in place to help Canadians during disasters. Without this Ministry, we would have confusion and and be exposed to threats. We are lucky to live in a country where the government helps to keep us safe.
