Science: Stayin' Alive - In this last and final science unit, we are going to dive right into different habitats and the animals that live in them. We start the unit by assessing what we already know about this topic, and then learn about a species in our neck of the woods. This particular species is called the Barton Springs Salamander. Please take a look below to learn more about this critter. We will start and end the unit with this little guy.

Language Arts: I'm sad to say that we wrapped up our poetry unit last week. The students( and teachers) really enjoyed this unit, but the great news is that hopefully they will have a new love of poetry.
This week we will delve into persuasive writing.
Biographies- We will begin to read different biographies and your child will pick one person that they are interested in researching further.
Persuasive writing attempts to convince the reader that a point of view is valid, or to persuade the reader to take action.
We will immerse students in a variety of persuasive texts (ex. persuasive essays, persuasive letters, reviews, speeches, advertisements, commercials) in which they make inferences and draw conclusions about the persuasive text and identify what the author is trying to persuade the reader (or viewer) to think or do. Students analyze various forms of media to analyze how words, images, graphics, and sounds work together to impact meaning.Leader in Me- I encourage you to partner with us in teaching your student to practice The Seven Habits at home. To learn more about The Seven Habits and how they can be used at home, visit "Parent's Place" at http://www.theleaderinme.org/parents/
