Mustang Messages | Commemorating a Year from a Distance

It all started with a feeling, an idea and a blank fence. The feeling of a year without being on campus and seeing your friends and classmates. The idea of writing your thoughts on paper and hoping others will do the same. They were then hanging these thoughts and feeling together on the school fence, hoping that when other students see it, perhaps they would not feel so alone.

The idea of “Mustang Messages” came from our school service clubs led by Nishabell Rubio, Annika Le and the student leaders of Key Club, NHS, Leo, Hand 4 Hope and Care and Connect.

We hope you will visit the Mustang Messages this weekend and read for yourself the heartwarming, heartbreaking, thoughtful, and funny messages that the students have written.

It will be one way of commemorating this one year away from our school campus. It will also help strengthen our bond as a school community to read and support our students and better understand how they have been feeling.

Academic Cohorts | April 19

In addition to opening our doors, on April 19th, for students to come during the tutorial time (1:10 pm to 2:30 pm), we will provide academic cohorts for students who would like to come on campus from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday. These cohorts will give students the opportunity to participate in distance learning with their current teachers while receiving additional support from content area experts.

WVUSD makes it our highest priority to protect the health and well-being of our students, families, and staff during this unprecedented time. As we slowly integrate student cohort activities under the LA County Department of Public Health (Public Health) guidance, we are taking precautionary measures to minimize any opportunity for transmission of Covid-19.

Please watch the following video for more information about the WHS Academic Cohort Program. Academic Cohort Informational Video

If you are interested in your student participating in the Academic Cohort Program, please fill click the link which will connect you to the interest form. Academic Cohort Interest Form

Student selection for the Academic Cohort Program will be based on student need and school site capacity. Completion of this form does not guarantee a seat in the cohort. Your student’s GLC will reach out to you with more information about the cohort and confirm your student’s participation once a space becomes available. We look forward to welcoming your student(s) back to campus on April 19th. Go Mustangs!

2021 Career STEAMposium - Round II

The 5th Annual and 1st virtual Career STEAMposium will occur on Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM. This virtual and free event is themed STEAM CROSSES ALL COLOR BARRIERS AND NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE!

STEAM permeates every part of our lives, and career opportunities in these areas grow by about 14% per year. To be gainfully employed, it is essential to have skills that people are willing to pay to gain access. STEAM professions are the jobs of today and the future. Many high-paying jobs in these areas continue to go unfilled because there is a gap between workforce skillsets and job requirements. If we want to close this gap, we need to encourage our future workforce to pursue future careers in STEAM.

The Career STEAMposium exposes Middle School to Community College students to Professionals in all aspects of STEAM careers – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Students will attend workshops, learn from, and ask questions of STEAM professionals during the day. They will participate in hands-on activities that include Robotics, Formula SAE Racecar Design, Liquid Rocket Design, NASA/ JPL’s Mars Sample Return Project, and much more!

Our goal is to expose the students to professional experiences that they would not receive in a classroom environment. Demystify the subjects of Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math to enable and equip all students with a better understanding of these subjects and how they possess the knowledge to thrive in them & engage the students by allowing them to view, listen to and have an interactive dialog with our Hands-On teams to get a better understanding of how they, like our teams, may begin student clubs & projects at their schools

Attached is the flyer for this year’s event and a listing of our Workshop Speakers & Hands-On Activities. Here is the Registration Link: https://hopin.com/events/2021-virtual-career-steamposium
