Principal's Note
Hi Families:
I continue to be impressed by the high-quality learning and engagement throughout the rooms here at Whittier. I have noticed some of our kids are TIRED!!
One thing you can do to continue supporting your learner at home is to help them get the proper amount of sleep each night. Removing TVs or iPads in the room can help to assist in children getting uninterrupted sleep each night allowing their brains to recharge for the next day of learning.
How much sleep should my child get? Check it out here:
- 4-6 year olds - recommendation is between 10-12 hours a night! This would mean the children would go to bed between 7-9pm and wake between 6-8am.
- 7-12 year olds -(not much different!) recommendation is between 9-11 hours a night! A typical bedtime for this age group should not be later than 9pm.
Studies have shown that kids who regularly get an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, and overall mental and physical health! <-- GREAT reasons to jump on the sleep bus!
We are here to be your partner in eduction and we are honored to work with YOU and your children everyday!

If you have questions about this, please ask.
What happens if my child is sent home on a 10-14 day quarantine?
If your child goes home for quarantine, they will now receive a schedule that will outline when they can livestream mini-lessons that happen in the classroom. If your child is home, we'd love to keep the learning happening by giving you the opportunity to tune in to mini lessons and small group lessons.
Monthly Characteristic!
The picture shows a book all of our classrooms will be reading sometime this month! This story celebrates our need to believe in ourselves and keep growing! It's called, I can be anything - Don't tell me I can't.
See what ways you can talk about how you have to show GROWTH MINDSET at work or home!
Birthday Treats
If you are planning to send a birthday treat with your son or daughter, please consider this as we will be unable to serve anything that is not so packaged by a store and individually wrapped. Please ask if you have questions or concerns.
