MCHS Construction News

August 31, 2020

Here's a look summer construction work at MCHS facilities. With the exception of the West Campus building extension, all of the projects are either complete or finishing up.

We are looking forward to having students back at our facilities to see all that's new!

West Campus Strength Facility improvements

The West Campus strength room was expanded over the summer to accommodate additional students when West Campus becomes the grade 10-12 building.

Two more half racks and Olympic platforms were added. The dumbbells were moved to East Campus weight room for the new Introduction to strength (Freshman Campus) next year.

And a full set of INTEK dumbbells were purchased to service West Campus. The existing racks were connected together to create additional work stations (Including TRX systems). Five reverse hyper stations were added and one more lat pull/low row combo.

The most exciting addition was the installation of the 1,600+ square feet of indoor training turf in an existing walkway. This new area will create so many more safe training options for our athletes.

A huge thanks goes to Total Strength & Speed for their excellent work on the project.

East Campus entryway improvements

As part of District 156's improvement plan, work started at the end of July to improve the back entrance to East Campus. The project included repaving the bus and car lanes, replacing failing sections of sidewalk, removing an old brick structures and improving one of the loading docks.

The project is expected to finish soon.

West Campus interior improvements

The interior of West Campus underwent a wide-ranging improvement project that includes new LED lighting throughout and replacement of all old HVAC equipment. We hope that everyone enjoys the difference when schools open to in-person classes and events.

The project also includes new HVAC chillers and a new building automation system. And for the first time, Buckner Gym has air conditioning.

Workers have also been busy with moving the Lil' Warriors preschool room to make way to the building extension.

McCracken Field improvements

McCracken Field projects are wrapping up with the recent paving of limestone pathways.

Other improvements at McCracken include four new energy efficient stadium light poles to replace eight older lights, and new drain tiles to prevent water ponding.

It looks great!

New tennis courts

The long-awaited project to build 10 new tennis courts is complete. The new tennis courts were moved to make way for the new student parking lot on the south side of West Campus.

Workers recently finished fencing and painting of the courts, and completed new walkways.

Nets are up and the courts are ready for use!

Center for Science, Technology and Industry at West Campus

The new 70,000-square-foot building extension on the north end of West Campus is moving along on schedule. Outside brick work is finishing up, and workers are installing outside windows.

Inside, workers are busy with the plumbing and electrical work as new classroom and hallway spaces are taking shape.
