Gogo Timeline In Waiting For Godot
Gogo Characteristics
Gogo, Main Character in Waiting for Godot
In Waiting For Godot, one of the main characters is Gogo which was nickname by Vladimir who real name is Estragon.
GOGO
Gogo so clueless
A character trait estragon could be seen as would be clueless. He depends on Vladimir and has no clue on why he wants to wait on Godot because he’s not familiar with the bible like Vladimir is. This ties into his social construct for religion because he’s waiting on Godot because Vladimir wants to. Clearly estragon has no religion of his own. In Act 1 when Vladimir asked estragon if he ever read the bible he said, “The bible… I must have taken a look at it”. This quote shows that Estragon is not familiar with the bible which proves he’s not very religious.
Gogo
“Waiting for Godot”
Estragon is one of the two main characters in the play “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett. Estragon (also known as GoGo) appears to be weak and helpless because he is always looking for protection. He is the weakest link considering that he needs help from Vladimir in terms of taking care of himself, understanding things and remembering situations. Estragon is the follower, the person that obeys orders instead of initiating them due to the fact that he lets people control him. He is careless because he was beaten but does not seem to show interest of what happened to him. Estragon has poor memory due to the fact that Vladimir has to remind him of the events of what happened the night before. He appears to have anxiety and doubt he wants to leave Vladimir but never leaves. Estragon is a portrait of physical pain and need he is always complaining about his foot sore , hunger and thirst that never seems to end. He is physically beaten every night. His physical suffering appears unending. In conclusion Estragon is the weak and helpless character in the play compared to the other main characters. He is careless and is not capable to control his own life without the help of someone else.
being educated
1st trait: Gogo
Social construct: Education
During the scene we could testify that Gogo reacts differently when he’s being spoken to. His level of reaction is really low meaning that he can’t figure out what is going on and needs to be specifically told repeatedly in order for him to understand. For example when Pozzo, arrives Gogo goes right up to him to know who he is, but he looked mistakenly confused by saying several times “Who are you?” it can connect to Education because of the way he acts by saying “what” “How” “you, you heard that” it can determine that he is not properly educated on the terms of proper understanding even though he is smart but lacks on understanding when Pozzo explains to him why lucky is the way he is.
