Literacy

We will continue to work on rereading difficult parts of a text to help us better understand what we have read. We will look at onomatopoeia and identify them in our mentor text, The Underground Dance.

Our spelling words will have sw and sm blends. They are as follows:

  1. smear
  2. smile
  3. sweet
  4. swell
  5. swim
  6. along
  7. catch
  8. smaller
  9. swallow
  10. +1 personal word to be determined by the class on Monday morning

In Writer's Workshop, we will work on the parts of a story. We will check that our stories include a title, one or more characters with a problem to solve, a beginning, middle, and end, and a solution to the problem.

Math

We will continue our Data & Graph topic. We will describe the location of an object on a grid using right, left, up, and down. We will also collect data using tally marks, organize collected data into real graphs, make picture graphs, and use data given in a table to make a bar graph. We will ensure our understanding of data given in a graph through answering questions about what we see.

Below is a picture of one of our graphing activities. We graphed what kinds of shoes we were wearing. Then we answered questions based on the data we collected.

Science

This week, we will be looking into different habitats including the arctic, rainforests, deserts, and oceans. We will learn about the plants and animals that inhabit these areas as well as the climate. We will also look at different ways we can protect each habitat.
