It says:
“More Canadian children are overweight and for the first time the country's younger generations are expected to live shorter lives than their parents because of obesity”
“Shocked to learn about the increase in overweight children, from 12 per cent to 18 per cent, and obese children, from three per cent to eight per cent, between 1978 and 2004”
“The report said most Canadian children spend too much time in front of TV and computer screens; don't get the expert-recommended 90 minutes a day of exercise; eat too much fat and junk food; consume too many sugary drinks and don't eat the recommended five daily servings of fruit and vegetables.”
I say
I agree that more and more children are obese and they should start controlling their diet. These results are shocking because only 3-8% were obese in 1978 and now 12-18% were obese in 2004 that's a surprising amount of increase in obesity. The children are not doing/getting enough exercise and there eating fast foods.They need at least 90 minutes of exercise and i say we should put an end to obesity by telling parents/guardians to enforce the message to their kids, nephews/nieces. The kids should eat a balanced meal with foods from the 5 food groups. The 5 food groups are vegetables, dairy, grains, meat and alternatives, and fruits. Eating a balanced diet will help them tremendously. The kids are just sitting at home watching tv, playing with their phones or play video games on their gaming consoles for a long time. Things like these are forcing the kids to stay inside instead of going outside and playing. Kids these days are getting addicted to video games and computers. Parents should be a bit more HARSH and tell their kids to not use an electronic device for more that 20-30 minutes unless it's for school. I'm not saying they should not use electronics at all but use it for appropriate timings. The addiction of video games is really truly bad for the person's eyes also. The strain from the electronic can damage your eye retina.
And so..
We should control the amount we spend on video games, electronics and control the amount of junk food we eat. We should also get a lot of exercise and eat a balanced diet to keep us healthy. The kids parents should take their kids outside and let them play with their friends or with the parents. They should also get the expert-recommended 90 minutes of exercise. Child obesity will impact the future because kids don't study hard enough because they are addicted to video games. If they don't pay attention in class they will not learn anything and will have difficulty finding jobs.
