COVID 19 Grading Procedures
Dear Tiger Families:
In education, we often find ourselves reflecting on and responding to the immediate needs of our families and our school community. The COVID-19 outbreak and the mandated social distancing order by Governor DeWine have necessitated the urgency for the Loveland City School District Board of Education to pass several resolutions to allow the school administration to comply with new emergency legislation.
We can only imagine the range of emotions that our students must be feeling. Please know our first concern is for the health and welfare of our students and their families. We understand the unique and challenging situation we are all in. Our goal is to provide content for students to continue learning while honoring the challenges that may arise during this time of a global pandemic.
Our students’ post-secondary goals may include applying to college or university, career/technical degree program, for scholarships, enlisting in the military or possibly participating in college athletics. Thus, grades will be necessary for students to attain their post-high school plans.
Here are the guidelines:
Our teachers are committed to providing engaging Remote Learning (RL) and supporting all students through this process. We understand families will have very different situations that may affect their child’s ability to participate and perform in RL. We want to be as equitable as humanly possible for all Tigers.
Our grading policy will include a No Harm practice. For example, if a student struggles with RL during 4th quarter but has maintained a B average in a course through 3rd quarter, that student’s grade average will be maintained as a B. Likewise, if a student earns a higher grade during remote learning 4th quarter, it will be averaged with their 3rd quarter grade to reflect their progress.
Students must pass the 4th quarter to ensure athletic eligibility for Fall sports under OHSAA requirements. Second-semester grades/GPA will not be affected for scholarship opportunities, college, and other admissions or NCAA clearinghouse eligibility if a student maintains their academic performance.
If a student has difficulty fully engaging in remote learning, our team of teachers, counselors, and administrators will reach out to each student and their family to assist students in making progress.
If a student has specific questions regarding his/her transcript status or future plans, please contact the school counselor.
Students will not take semester exams at the end of the 4th quarter. Therefore, SENIORS’ last day of instruction will be May 15, 2020. Instruction will end for 9th, 10th and 11th graders on May 28, 2020.
For students enrolled in CCP coursework, guidelines will be followed per the college/university.
Please reach out to us as questions and concerns arise. We miss our Tigers terribly and hope our families are healthy.
Thank you so much for your support of our entire school community and beyond during this challenging time. Remember, physical distancing now, will get us together sooner.
