Third and Fourth Grades
Advent starts Sunday
Soon and Very Soon
The children are going to be doing acts of Kindness as gifts for the Christ Child. Upon their return to school they will write it down and we will collect them. We discussed the preparation for the Baby Jesus, Advent and the story of the Nativity. I am so pleased with how the children understand that there are others world wide who will not have as joyful a Christmas as they are but it is not the material wealth but the joy in the heart that matters.
Language Arts
3rd Grade finished Wayside School is Falling and have started reading Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary. We try to read as many stories that are enjoyable but still with a message in it. Dear Mr. Henshaw tells a story of a young boy starting in 2nd Grade but now in 6th Grade who has been writing to the same author. The story of his relationship with his Dad is not around all the time.
4th Grade is continuing with Raymie Nightingale. It is a story of friendship among girls with very different backgrounds. Each one wants to win a contest for a different reason but yet they bond on achieving their goal.
We will focus more and more on our writing skills.
Math
My group has finished with reading tables and graphs Chapter 4. We then moved forward to Chapter 5 Data and Probability. We are currently starting with Reading Decimals and Adding / Subtracting Decimals. These two chapters are short which is perfect for this time of year.
The students are anxious and anticipating Christmas. With all the gifts and activities they are really waiting for that special day.
On that note Mr. Ivan has suspended 'Vocabulario' Spanish spelling tests until next year.
4th Grade will have their spelling test this week and I too will hold off until next year.
