Message from the Principal- Cameron Ramirez
Next week is STAAR week! We had a wonderful week of spirit to get ready! Tomorrow is our STAAR pep rally with some very special guests. We had a wonderful Kindergarten Kickoff and are so excited for all of our new Eagles. Big, big, huge thanks to PTA and Monica Lopez for all of the wonderful teacher appreciation week! We enjoyed the color run with everyone who came this past week! We hope to see everyone tomorrow night at 7:15pm for PTA movie night!

Don’t mess with Texas® K-12 Art Contest
The 2019 Don’t mess with Texas® K-12 Art Contest is open and will close on April 18, 2019.
Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation invite Texas students in kindergarten through twelfth grade to submit their best litter prevention-inspired artwork to be considered for the Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Lakewood Art News:
Mrs. Yatko needs volunteers to help with the Artsonia Digital Art Gallery she is piloting this year with first grade artists. www.artsonia.com is a website in which parents can look at and then purchase items, such as mouse pads or coffee mugs, with your child’s artwork). Her planning time is 2:15 – 3:45 every day, so she has created a sign-up genius (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084fafaf2aa5ff2-artsonia) for certain dates throughout April with 45 minute help sessions. The job entails taking photographs of the hundreds of first grade art works for the Artsonia website. Even if you are not a first grade parent, please consider volunteering; she hopes to implement Artsonia to all grade levels in 2019-2020. Sign up here to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084fafaf2aa5ff2-artsonia
You can find out more about your child’s art class by going to Mrs. Yatko’s Padlet website http://padlet.com/deborahyatko/lweart or her “Lakewood Elementary Art” facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Lakewood-Elementary-Art-901931713343837/

SAFETY CONCERN
All doors are locked when the bell rings at 7:50 am. Students will need to go to the front door to get a tardy pass before going to class. Please remind your child that they must get a pass from the main office before reporting to class. This means if they are coming in by the gym, once the bell rings they must travel around the outside of the building to get to the main office.
Please help us by getting your child to school on time every day.
WRITE YOUR STUDENT A LETTER
Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Siblings, Family Friends, Guardians-
STAAR is quickly approaching. We would love to have a letter from you or someone in your family to give to your student on the day of each of their tests. This is just a quick way for you to encourage them, let them know they are loved and that you are proud of their hard work. Please send letters to their homeroom teachers. There should be a letter for each day that your student tests. A 3rd and/or 6th would get two letters while a 4th grader and/or 5th grader would get three letters. You can send the letters to the school in a variety of ways:
1. You can email the letters to the teacher. You can email any teacher but if you don’t know who to email, below are the team lead emails.
• Team lead emails:
• 3rd grade- BrookHoover@hebisd.edu
• 4th grade- RebeccaHile@hebisd.edu
• 5th grade- EmilyPryor@hebisd.edu
• 6th grade- JenniferLanders@hebisd.edu
2. You can write them on your own stationary and send them with their homeroom teacher written on the front with the student’s name.
3. You can ask your child’s teacher to send home stationary. We have plenty and are happy to provide it.
• 3rd Grade- May 13th (Math) and 14th (Reading)
• 4th Grade- May 13th (Math) , and May 14th (Reading)
• 5th Grade- May 15 (Science)
• 6th Grade- May 13th (Math) and May 14th (Reading)
