What is the December 13 Theme Day?
Send your student to school dressed in his or her favorite sports uniform or team shirt, as December's theme is Sports/Team Day. This theme was selected by Mrs. Soine's third grade classroom.
Have a student who likes to perform?
Acts should be between 30 seconds and 4 minutes in length, school appropriate, and entertaining.
We are only able to take 10-15 acts, so the auditions are very competition and we are not able to have all interested students participate. Students who were selected for last year's talent show had spent many hours practicing to ensure that their audition was successful. If your student is planning to participate in the auditions, please help them to find the time to practice in advance of their audition.
All students will attend the talent show and parents of the performers will be invited to attend as well. Our auditorium will not hold more people than this, so we will video record the performance for others to see.
Tentative dates
Information sent home with students the week of December 11-15.
Sign up for auditions the week of December 18-22
Auditions the week of January 3-5
Talent show on Thursday, January 25
When is the winter concert?
Have a drawer full of single gloves?
Encourage your child(ren) to check the Lost & Found, or stop in yourself when you are in the building.
Want to share your thoughts about the school calendar?
On behalf of the students we serve, I invite you to help us shape the future of Mankato Area Public Schools by sharing your thoughts on the school calendar for our District.
To join the conversation, use this link. You'll be asked to share your thoughts through two open-ended questions and then consider the thoughts of others. This will help us get a sense of what matters to our community as we consider changes to our school calendar. All individual thoughts shared during an exchange are anonymous. By participating, your thoughts and star ratings will be shared with others but your identity will remain private.
We value your time spent engaged in this process.
Notes about this exchange:
1. It could take you as little as 5 - 10 minutes to participate.
2. You can complete questions at your own pace and come back to review your answers at any time.
Do you know Josh Waitzkin?

* When the weather causes school to start two hours late, breakfast will not be served.
Is Franklin looking for playground supervisors?
What can I do this December to help Franklin and PTO?
Please keep collecting Hy-Vee receipts from Mankato stores, Milk Moola lids, and Box Tops for Education this month. We'll have another Box Top competition in the spring, but receipts and milk lids can be turned into the collection bins across from the office at any time. Also, note there is no PTO meeting this month.
What made our Scholastic Book Fair record breaking?
Final Scholastic Book Fair numbers are in and WOW! We sold over $4027 in books and merchandise at the fair! This amount beats our past two November book fairs. We even exceeded Nov. 2015 sales by almost $6 and we had 250 sixth graders at Franklin that year.
We'll receive $2214.89 in Scholastic Dollars (55% of sales) to spend on books and classroom furniture and supplies. Plus some of those Scholastic Dollars will help us buy one book for every K-5 Franklin student at the SPRING Book Fair, as a Walk-A-Thon prize. We’re waiting until March, because Scholastic discounts many more titles after the first round of fairs and we’ll have more $5 or less titles for our students to select from.
We raised $90.85 for All for Books, a Scholastic charitable program where Scholastic matches the amount we raised and donates that amount to schools and children throughout the nation. We used the funds that we collected through All for Books on books for the Media Center, so our library now has the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid title, more Upside Down Magic books, and other popular titles for our students to check out.
How much do we appreciate volunteers?
A big "Thank You" to the numerous volunteers that gave of their time at the book fair and to the volunteers that donated items for the teacher's potluck during conferences. And a shout out to those working the registers as we were only off by $.06 throughout the three days.We are so appreciative of all that you do for Franklin! As you know, we can not do these events without you. Thank you so much!
Who won the Leapfrog tablets?
The winners of the two, Leapfrog Epic Academy Edition tablets (donated by PTO Today & Leapfrog) were a 4th grader in Sandhurst's class and a 2nd grader in Arndt's class. Thank you to all who stopped by to enter the drawing and to support the book fair. Have fun and enjoy your tablets!
