Senior Walk
ATTENTION SENIORS
Want to go on senior field trips? Get your diploma? Keep up your grades and take care of obligations. Such as: Turned in laptop, laptop charger, calculator, library books, text books, athletic equipment. Pay off lunch dues, organization dues, laptop insurance, broken or lost equipment/electronic charges, and return items borrowed from your teachers.
PARENTS: Please see if your student has checked their obligations. They are about to be thrown into the real world, but one last helpful reminder is wonderful! Thank you for your understanding.
Mental Health Fact: Children & Teens: 90% of those who died by suicide had an underlying mental illness
Questions, if you will please...
What if you heard the term brain disease instead? Does this help? Feel more compassion?
What if you heard someone had an illness which effects a major vital organ?
Look at it this way: without mental health, there is no health. It leads to many roads, taking passengers with it.
Please, get informed. It has been shown one in five children will have it. The odds of it not impacting your life, at any given time, do not look good.

Not just about reading...
Quick Tips For Test Anxiety
1. Allow yourself plenty of time to do the things you need to do before the test.
2. Avoid overthinking. Don't cram just before the test.
3. Get a good night's sleep.
4. Eat small breakfast, but no heavy meal. (Let your brain work on test questions, not digestion.)
5. Approach the exam with confidence - you got this!
During the test:
1. Read directions carefully.
2. Don't worry if students start finishing the test before you. There is no reward for being first, and no one is going to remember how long it took you. Take your time.
3. If you go blank, skip question and come back later.
4. Don't think about/dwell on the fear. Pause and focus on next step. Keep on task.
5. If taking an essay and you go blank, pick a question and start writing. It can trigger answers.

Word of the Week
Imagery:
1. visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work
2. visual images collectively.
3. visual symbolism.
In literature, you know it is good writing if you can make these connections: see, smell, feel, hear, and taste the story. Makes sense, right?

The Books of Elsewhere: The Shadows by Jacqueline West
The why of must read: The imagery and suspense. For a book labeled with a middle school interest level, it can hold the attention of any age. It ties up neatly and satisfies questions, however the story does continue with four more books. Gotcha, you reluctant readers...
Cool website for information, videos, and games on the series: http://booksofelsewhere.com/index.html

And still some will say they never knew...
Friendly Reminder: The end of the school year is quickly approaching. Don't let obligations surprise you. Has your student paid the lunch bill? Laptop insurance? Any other outstanding fines? Turned in or renewed library books? Given the teacher back what was borrowed? Ask your student to check with cafeteria, library, office, and teachers to make sure! Thank you for your understanding.
STUDENTS: Do not loan out your calculators, chargers, or laptops. You are responsible for their care and return. If you forgot yours, do not ask a classmate to borrow theirs. Remember yours. *TEST DATES: Remember your calculator. There are no extras in the library to borrow another one!
Dude. be nice
