A Note From Mrs. Doyle
Dear Families,
Happy Day 22! I continue to be in absolute awe of our incredibly hard-working teachers and students. Everyone is giving their very best, including YOU, and it is making all the difference.
COVID-19 Reminders
We had our first student test positive for COVID-19 this week. The child is doing well and contract tracing has shown no evidence of in-school transmission. This is a good time to remind ourselves how important it is that we are following all of the rules to help mitigate spread. At school, students and staff continue to adhere to the safety protocols we have in place including wearing masks, hand washing/sanitizing, maintaining social distancing, and staying home when experiencing symptoms that may be consistent with COVID-19.
Likewise, we are relying on you to be sure you are closely monitoring your children for any symptoms and keeping them home if they are not feeling well or are exhibiting symptoms. You can find our SPS COVID-19 protocols on our website under the Reopening Resource Center. Moreover, please be careful with traveling. There are only a handful of “lower risk” states you can visit; please consult the MA Travel Order information before any trips. If your family travels to a “high risk” state, including Rhode Island right now, you must quarantine for 14 days or produce a negative COVID test. It is essential that we all do your part to maintain safety.
Food Pantry
Food insecurity is a serious concern right now. Families who have never needed to visit a Food Pantry before are finding themselves in need. For as long as I can remember, the SPS elementary schools have contributed to the Sudbury Food Bank on a monthly basis during the school year. Given all of our new safety protocols, the way we typically do this, with the leadership of our third graders, is simply not possible. However, our help is still desperately needed. To meet this critical need, Peter Noyes will participate in the Food Pantry collection each month and we invite you to contribute if it is possible for your family. We will collect items at school arrival on the last Thursday and Friday of the month, so October 29 and 30 this month. We will also collect items from our Remote Only families on Wednesday afternoon, October 27, when they come to school for the Materials Exchange. Tables will be set up at the school entrances on these days and students are asked to leave their items on the tables. A team of Food Pantry volunteers will collect all of our items and deliver them to the Pantry. We talk to our students about our Core Values, one of which is Caring for others. Participation in the Food Pantry collection is a tangible way to show our Core Value of Caring.
The items most in need at the Food Pantry right now are:
Full size snacks (crackers, cookies, chips)
Boxes of cereal
Pasta
Hamburger Helper
Taco kits / shells
Tomato products (sauce, diced, paste)
Cans of soup
Canned green beans
Canned beans
Mac & Cheese
Boxes of rice
Baking products
We collect non-perishables only. Thank you for supporting the Sudbury Food Pantry.
PTO Meeting / Principal Chat
Our first PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Kristin Moffat, Assistant Principal, and I will be there and we will share a school update and answer questions. There will also be a full PTO agenda. The PTO has always been a tremendous support to our entire school and we deeply appreciate our continued partnership.
Meeting ID: 891 3285 9918
Passcode: kcC0U5
Please ensure your first and last name is your username before being admitted.
Humanities Presentation
Please join Lauren Egizio, SPS Humanities Curriculum Coordinator, for a Family Information Forum for Social Studies on Tuesday, October 20, from 7-8 p.m. on Zoom. You will learn about the changes to curriculum and instructional practices.
Have a safe and fun-filled weekend.
Best,
Annette Doyle
Picture Day is November 12th and 13th!
Guidance for COVID-19 Testing
COVID-19 Travel Order
Sudbury Public Schools is strictly adhering to the COVID-19 Travel Order. We would like to remind parents that the travel order pertains to anyone entering Massachusetts from out-of-State and includes MA residents returning from second homes or weekend trips to any state not considered to be lower-risk.
Massachusetts residents are urged to limit any out-of-State travel only to States designated as COVID-19 lower-risk States.
The current list of COVID-19 lower-risk States includes:
California
Connecticut
District of Columbia
Hawaii
Maine
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Vermont
Washington
*Rhode Island is currently considered a higher-risk State
If you travel for any reason you must follow the mandated guidelines below unless you meet the exemptions for travel listed below.
Exemptions to travel order:
Transitory travel through a State
Travel for work, school, or medical treatment
Military travel requirement
*Any overnight stay in a State considered higher-risk requires a COVID test and quarantine until test results are known.
Children age 10 and younger are not required to be tested but must follow the quarantine requirement of their parent(s)/guardian(s) until test results are known, or if no testing is done, the end of the 14 day quarantine period.
A negative result from an antigen test must be confirmed by a negative result from an FDA EUA-approved molecular (PCR) SARS-CoV2 test, on a sample obtained 72 hours or less prior to arrival in Massachusetts. Serology tests will not be accepted.
Please inform your school nurse of travel plans to a higher-risk State and provide a copy of the COVID-19 test result before your child(ren) returns to school.
Complete the Massachusetts Travel Form before returning to MA from a higher-risk State. For more info: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order
