Rocket Review
Week of May 24, 2019
Memorial Weekend
The warmer weather has finally arrived and Memorial Weekend is upon us. The next three weeks are packed with learning and classroom activities, yet our students are already starting to struggle with staying focused on school. Please help your child make the best of the last three weeks of learning by helping them get to bed at their regular bed time and keeping their school routine running. We are all looking forward to some summer time fun, but still have so much to do at school before we break for the summer!
This week we completed our office M-STEP testing schedule! We have some students who need to complete their M-STEP next week during make up sessions. Our NWEA continues as teachers collect final review of our students' performance to see how they have grown throughout the school year. It is exciting to see our students excel and meet their goals!
We finished our week with our annual Colonial Job Fair in the gymnasium today. There are pictures below. Our Fifth Grade students spend a portion of their social studies learning researching careers that existed during colonial times, then select a career to learn more about through further research. They create a display board of their career and teach visitors about their career, answering questions and showing their artifacts as examples. They did a wonderful job today as they shared with Morgan students and visitors.
This weekend marks the beginning of the busy summer vacation and travel season. Please be careful and safe this weekend whether you head "up north" or stay closer to home!
Have a great week!

Lunch Monitor HELP NEEDED!
PLEASE help keep our Morgan students safe and on the right track for behavior during lunch time by either signing up to be an official EduStaff lunch employee or volunteering to walk the playground and help in the lunchroom. Information is below.
Morgan Lunch Monitors
Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.
If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.
Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.
If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.
If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.

UCS News and Updates
The Morgan Volunteers PTO held their final meeting for the 2018-2019 school year this past Monday. We would like to welcome the following members to our PTO board and support staff:
Vice President: Haig Istamboulian
Web Masters: Diana Bushman & Jerome Ohnui
Scholastic Books/Birthday Books: Laura Walker
Our PTO also voted to purchase 2 sets of nets for our existing soccer goals, to be installed in the fall. Additionally they approved the purchase of 4 new soccer goals to create two new soccer field areas. These will be ordered and installed for use in the fall. The playground committee is also researching the purchase of a Gaga ball pit, hopefully to be installed in the fall as well.
The Nature Center has been brought back to life! A team met in May for a clean up of the trails and spread 20 yards of mulch on the trails. We can now access more of the trails in the nature center and are working on creating an outdoor classroom area, new sign at the entrance, and the installation of our "Toomey Trail" marker.
Parents in attendance at Monday's meeting also heard update on Morgan improvement projects occurring during the summer of 2019. On Friday, June 14, the Morgan Main Office will be temporarily relocated to the Music Room as work crew begin demolition of areas in the main office. The office will be expanded to include a secure vestibule for entrance to the building after students arrive for the day. The renovation will include a second door added to the outside of the building, new flooring in the lobby and main office, new LED lighting in the lobby and main office and rearrangement of the layout of the main office for better security.
There will also be three classrooms receiving new carpet this summer. These projects were made possible through your support of our bond initiative this past November.
The PTO will be meeting again in the fall and looks forward to seeing many parents join in the fun and exciting projects we have that make Morgan Elementary a special place to learn and grow!
