The Year Ahead
We have lots of exciting events planned for 2014, and we will continue to rely on the help of family members (parents, grandparents and others are welcome). We will also have some changes in Pack Committee leadership as some parents leave for Boy Scouts with their sons. We always welcome new volunteers, whether on a one time project like shirt sales or registration, or an ongoing position like Service Chair. Contact any leader for more information on available opportunities.
In the coming weeks, look for information on spring camping organized by the Webelos 2 dens and a trip to a Blue Rocks game at which scouts will present the colors organized by parent John Sparco.
As always, please follow the wiksispace for information on Pack activities.
Pretzel Sales
We have 2 dates left, Feb. 15 and 16. Please sign up if you have not volunteered yet and/or if you have time on either date.
Alan Allgeier (302-383-7173), Bryan Cochran (302-540-7953) and Tom Warnock (302-668-5281) have agreed to coordinate the event.
Each Den will be assigned a day to cover.
----The Incentive Program:
This Incentive will be in effect for the entire time our Pretzel Sales are held at any event (Volleyball, Basketball, Consignment sale)-
For every hour time slot that your scout works (max of 2 scouts per slot), your scout will earn a raffle ticket. For every additional hour they work in the same day, they will receive 2 raffle tickets (i.e. 2 hours will be 3 tickets, 3 hours will be 5 tickets). This will also apply during the consignment sale.
Raffle tickets will be provided to the Scouts based on their attendance at the Pretzel Sales events. The raffle will occur at our Blue and Gold Dinner in February. The scouts will have a choice of prizes that will could include gift cards from Amazon, Target, 5 Below, Scout Shop, etc and other possible prizes (sorry no ipads…J).
Essentially, the more slots they work, the more chance they will have in winning the raffle. It is possible for scouts to win more than one prize.

Scout Sunday and Earning Religious Emblems
Scout Sunday is open to all scouts and their families. Cub, Boy and Girl Scouts will attend mass in uniform and several will participate as altar servers and in other ways. Those who do not wish to attend mass are welcome to attend a service and social event that will be held in the Lower Hall immediately after the noon mass on Sunday, March 23 at IHM. Details about that project will be distributed in coming weeks.
Religious Emblems may be earned by cub scouts of various ranks and religions. The Catholic emblems (Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei) for cubs scouts are available to second through fourth graders. Earning a religious emblem is completely voluntary and is done by families not dens. The scout and his family complete a workbook and typically need to meet with their priest or religious leader after doing so.
If a scout intends to complete his Arrow of Light requirements as a webelos 2 scout, he must earn a religious emblem at some time earlier.
Details on Religious Emblems can be found at links on the wikispace page at http://bsapack33.wikispaces.com/Scout+Sunday+%26+Religious+Emblems.
If your son is interested in earning a religious emblem, you must
1. contact Bev Randolph at randolphbev@aol.com and tell her which award your son would like to earn by February 15
2. pay for a workbook which Bev will purchase for you (typically $4.00 and available at the Scout Shop)
3. complete the workbook independently by the date she sets to have it filed with the local organizations.
Bev will arrange meetings between an IHM priest and interested cub scouts. If you do not attend IHM Church, your scout may meet with his religious leader at a meeting you schedule; Bev can still obtain the workbook you need. She will send detailed information out to families who express interest to her by Feb. 15.
The Bishop presides at a mass and ceremony in May for all scouts receiving religious emblems and awards. Details on that event will be available in coming weeks as well.
