More than the Olympics
Figure Skating is more than the Olympics!
How many of you can relate? You tell people your kid has just signed up for Learn To Skate Classes and what's the first thing they ask?! "OH! Are you going to the Olympics?" This is my pet peeve! What I have found as a parent, volunteer, and club leader is that figure skating is so much more than the Olympics and people! And Ice Venkatesh, one of our members, has also discovered that! She has turned her figure skating talent into helping others! Read on...
Ice learned about the girls' education gap early on in her life and decided to stand up to support young girls’ education so they can live a better life. Ice is a figure skater; she combined her sport with her desire to support young girls who are not fortunate enough to attend school. Ice works with her skating friends, family, and the community to organize the annual fundraiser event at the Galleria Ice skating rink in Houston, Texas. Ice started the Lemonade with Ice Fundraiser seven years ago and every year she donates all funds to Malala Charity. So far, she has raised more than $18K. Several Kids from our club performed during the Fundraising Event.
Ice, we are so proud of you and all you do for the Malala Charity!
Are you doing something fun with the sport? Are you doing something amazing on or off the ice? We'd love to hear!! Please let us know by emailing LDLHAYES@GMAIL.COM!

Collegiate Corner
Hello from Northern University, Boston
Two weeks ago, we [Kristina Ruiz and Ashely Brown] competed at the NYU Violet Ice Classic. It was a lot of fun, and Northeastern University got 7th place out of 19 teams! Ashely got 2nd place in her Excel Juvenile event. This last week we had our Annual Holiday Show and it was a success! Last year, Ashely and I were both directors of the show and this year we were able to help but mostly just enjoy it!
Can't wait to see everybody in a few weeks!
