Principal's Message
April 12, 2021
Hello Dewey Families!
We hope that you can join us tonight at 7:00 for our Parent/Faculty Organization (PFO) meeting. Our newly elected board members for the 2021-22 school year will be introduced this evening. We will also be hearing a presentation regarding the Eagle Scout project that Dewey was a recipient of. PFO is an integral part of our school community and they help make Dewey the special place that it is. Assemblies, school events (Crab Feed, Fall Festival and Santa’s Night), selling school merchandise and supporting teachers are just a few of the many ways that PFO contributes to our school. The more families we have involved , the greater the impact on our school. We are always looking for new ideas! So, if you’ve been thinking about coming to a meeting, why not stop by tonight? This will be a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved at the school. Please see below for more information and zoom link.
Have a great week!
Warmest regards,
Sabrina Parsley, Principal

PROTECT OTHERS. PREVENT COVID. GET TESTED FOR FREE!
San Juan Unified is providing COVID-19 testing locations for all students and staff to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while assisting individuals with monitoring their own health and protecting those around them. You can view a full list of testing dates and locations at www.sanjuan.edu/covidtest.
As Sacramento County is currently in the red tier of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system, asymptomatic testing is recommended every two weeks for students and school employees. Please note that testing is voluntary and there is no cost to the individual being tested. These testing clinics are open to students only, not family members.
Parents and guardians are required to complete the registration process for children 13 and under and are encouraged to assist older children in signing up. Individuals are required to pre-register for the testing. This registration process only needs to be completed once and pre-registration will save you time at your first test. Visit www.sanjuan.edu/covidtest for pre-registration details. There are no assigned appointment times - your child can attend the clinic between the listed hours.
Testing will be done through a self-administered swab. Instructions will be provided at the testing site, but you can watch this video to preview how to administer the test. Results are typically sent to those tested within 24-48 hours of testing.
Please note that these clinics are for asymptomatic testing. If your child is experiencing symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, please consult your healthcare provider.
RACE TO EDUCATE IS RETURNING IN A VIRTUAL FORMAT IN MAY
Race to Educate will host its tenth annual race in a virtual format due to COVID restrictions. Student registration is free (and includes a race T-shirt!) for the first 1,000 runners. Just use the code R2E21.
While the race can’t be in person, the Foundation has partnered with seven Park and Rec Districts within San Juan Unified, Sac Running Association, and the San Juan Unified’s Nutrition Department to provide families with fitness activities, healthy recipes, and a place to walk/run any time from May 1 - 9.
Register now at racetoeducate.com to be listed as a participant at your school. Training materials and videos by Sac Running Association and healthy recipes are now available at racetoeducate.com. Starting the first week of May, participants can go to any one of the seven parks to run/walk a designated loop. School groups can use the race platform to raise money directly for San Juan Unified schools and all money raised will go directly to your school of choice.
