The Souhegan Scoop

A Message from the Principal
The month of November provides us with numerous opportunities to pause and take stock of the many things we have to appreciate and be grateful for. This week I want to emphasize the importance of appreciation and empathy within our school community. Today we were fortunate to host the community in an assembly honoring our veterans. Their sacrifices, bravery, and unwavering dedication to our country exemplify the true meaning of selflessness. We appreciate them for their service, and we strive to empathize with the challenges they face. Their courage inspires us to foster a spirit of understanding and support within our own community.
As we head into the weekend, let's extend our heartfelt appreciation to our veterans, celebrating their contributions to our nation. By practicing the skill of empathy, we can better comprehend their experiences and express our gratitude in meaningful ways. Thank you to our veterans, and thank you to our Souhegan community for embodying the values of appreciation, empathy, and gratitude. May we continue to practice these values at all times, not just designated holidays.

SENIOR PROJECT
Last week seniors participated in the first checkpoint for their senior project. Students met with their panel after school for 15 minutes to determine if their proposal was complete or incomplete. Please check in with your senior to ask how their meeting went. Seniors should now be focusing their efforts on their research. The next checkpoint is the Applied Piece Proposal Letter, due on January 8.

Community Council
This week at Community Council, we voted on the Referendum Proposal, which sought to create a process for allowing whole school votes on proposals brought to Community Council. It did not pass. Next week we will begin discussing the Permanent Bus Pass Proposal, which seeks to allow parents to give students permission to write a one-time note to allow them permission to ride multiple buses. We will begin discussing this proposal at our next meeting on Monday, 11/13, from 3:05 to 3:45 in the Info Center.

MEET OF CHAMPIONS
Competing against the top NH Teams and individuals from all Divisions at the Meet of Champions on Saturday, the Saber Boys employed excellent pack running as they placed their top 4 within a 37 second span, all in the top 43 in the field of 144 finishers, scoring 170 points, and edging out Bedford (171) for 5th place team honors! Owen Stine led the way for the Sabers wtih his 17th place finish in a blazing 15:57 (only the second Souhegan runner to ever break 16 minutes on a 5K XC course (Eli Moskowitz did it multiple times)). Taloosh Anderson (25th, 16:09), Dallen Noorda (32nd, 16:27), and Finley Irvine (43rd, 16:34) all had excellent races as well! Dylan Boyer had his best race of the season to place 100th in 17:45 to round out the scoring for Souhegan, with Mikey Corrigan (104th) right behind. Nashua South captured 1st place Team honors, followed by Hanover, Coe-Brown, and Pinkerton. The top six teams advance to the New England Championships in Belfast Maine next Saturday.
The Souhegan Girls Cross Country Team entered their 15th Meet of Champions in a row (2nd longest active streak in NH!) as the 13th ranked team in the state based on merged results from the divisional meets the week before, but then turned in an amazing performance, scoring 237 points and coming within 15 places of being in the top 6 teams in NH and advancing to New Englands!! The ever improving Sabers ran 2 minutes faster PER GIRL over the same course that they raced on 4 weeks ago! Freshman standout Samantha Swanbon led the the way. After finishing 8th in DII, Sammy finished 9th in the whole state, in an incredible time of 18:21! But this was a day when the entire team was firing on all cylinders and co-captains Stephanie Svendsen, and Sarah Bryson, along with Anna Brammer-DePuy each flew over the rolling hills of the MoC course to turn in their best races of the season by a lot! Grace Kennedy also had a strong race and scored for the Sabers. Oyster River took first place team honors with a mere 61 points, and Hanover edged Pinkerton 80 to 81 to place 2nd.
