Reading
While reading books about plants this week, we focused on the common core standard, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. We learned many facts about plants, but more importantly we learned how to ask questions about what we are reading to better comprehend the information. We will continue working on our comprehension through asking and answering questions about the text next week.
Math
Shapes!!! We have learned circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon. One idea that sometimes confused us was that even if we turn the shape on its side or 'upside down' the shape does not change. It is still the same shape regardless of its size or orientation. We also enjoyed drawing pictures of these shapes disguised as the items that we see all around us.
Writing
Rain, rain go away! We wrote about what we like to do on a rainy day. We had some fantastic suggestions about how to stay entertained on a rainy day such as, jumping in puddles, doing science experiments, staying inside and playing with toys, and going outside after the storm to look for a rainbow!
Let's Find Out
Read-A-Thon
In the Friday Folder, there is information on a PTO fundraiser, The Read-A-Thon! It is a great way to get students excited to read through a little friendly competition. If every child reads (or is read to) for 20 minutes a night from April 14th - April 23rd we will meet our class goal! I know many of you already read with your child on a daily basis, so just fill out the reading log attached to the forms in the Friday Folder and send it back by May 1st!
