DHS Broadcast
February 12, 2018
A message from Mr. Finkle!
I apologize for getting this Broadcast out late since I usually send it out on Thursdays. Unfortunately, I too was hit by the flu bug. Please make sure you are washing your hands and also please keep your child home if he/she has a fever or has not been fever-free for 24 hours. Thank you!
For Senior parents, Cap and Gown measurements will take place from 6:00 - 7:00 tomorrow, Tuesday February 13th. This will be followed by a mandatory Senior Trip meeting at 7:00 in the PAC. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Please see important information below from the PTA about graduation signs, senior stars as well as Gift Bag Extravaganza information!
I also want to cordially invite everyone to this year's DHS Spring Musical "Little Shop of Horrors" which will atke place the last weekend of February and the first weekend in March. Look for ticket information in the next broadcast.
Just a reminder, the District adopted a school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year that utilized President’s Day as a make-up day in the event of school closure. Please be advised that Monday, February 19, 2018 is a school day.
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at dfinkle@delranschools.org or 856-461-6100 x3005.
AP Bulletins and Information Guides
AP Bulletins and Information Guides were distributed to all AP students on Thursday, February 1st. Students were instructed to share the information with their parents/guardians. Even if you are enrolled in the CAP Program, all colleges nationwide may not accept CAP credit, and it would be in a student’s best interest to also take the AP exam. Deadline for AP test registration is Friday, March 2nd. Return the registration form and fee to Mrs. Newman in Guidance. If you receive accommodations through an IEP or 504, you must apply to the College Board separately for AP accommodations by February 23rd. Your guidance counselor can assist.
If you receive free or reduced lunch, you are eligible for exam fee reductions and you should see Mrs. Galati or your guidance counselor. Duplicate Bulletins and registration forms are available in Guidance.
Athletic News
Three weeks remaining in the Winter season. The Swim team ended their season at the BCSL Open. Many swimmers had their best times and the students had a wonderful year. Bowling will participate in the BCSL Open on February 8th. Several of the bowlers competed at the NJSIAA Sectional tournament earlier in the month and the boys’ team bowled their best score of the season. Wrestling qualified again for the NJSIAA team tournament as a #4 seed. The regular season matched concluded this Saturday and Districts will occur the weekend of February 17-18 at Long Branch High School. Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball will find out on February 8th if they qualify for the NJSIAA state tournament. Come out and support these teams as they finish another successful winter season.
Attention to students who want to play a Spring sport! A new form has be added to the ATS requirements. The NJ Department of Education has created an Opioid Fact Sheet that must be reviewed and signed off by all athletes and parents before participation can occur on March 2nd. The ATS portal will be open from January 15th to February 12th. If you have already filled out all documents from a Fall or Winter sport, you must reenter ATS, review the Opioid Fact Sheet and complete the electronic signatures required. Once electronic signatures are complete, the Opioid Fact Sheet with signatures must be printed out and placed in the box on the front counter of the main office. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Guidotti or Mr. Caplin.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: if your student wants to participate in a sport during the school year, the student must have a valid physical. Once a new physical is complete, do not hold onto it. Turn the physical into Mr. Guidotti or Ms. Jordan so that it can be forwarded to the school physician for approval. Make sure that all information on the physical and health history form are filled out completely and accurately. In addition, a student may not participate in a sport unless the ATS portal has been completed. Directions on how to complete ATS can be found on Mr. Caplin’s teacher page.
Not able to make the home winter sporting events? Log into www.nfhsnetwork.com and subscribe to the Delran home page. You can watch basketball and wrestling matches live from the comfort of your home on your computer or smart tv for a low price. $9.99 per month, $40 per season. In addition, if you miss the live event, games are stored on the page for future viewing. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Guidotti.

January Student of the Month
Noah was nominated for January "Student of the Month"...here is a little of what Mr. Fiordimondo had to say. "Noah leads by example. He doesn't need or look for recognition. He doesn't try to get attention. He just does the work because he was told to and it's the right thing to do. IT is for the very fact that he isn't trying to get nominated that he NEEDS to be nominated."

Parents who drop off a completed basket before March 30th will be entered into a drawing to win VIP parking at graduation. Questions? Contact Denise Klein, Delran.mshs.pta@gmail.com.
Alumni Walk
Alumni Walk Update- We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! The Advisors from the Class of 2017 are working on their inlay design. We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Please consider purchasing a brick in order to pave the entire walkway. The link for purchasing a brick is below. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Best Cut Lawn-care and Landscaping for installing our bricks. They have donated their time and talents to DHS and provided their work free of charge. Thanks you Phil Velo and Best Cut.
