OLMP Catholic School
Weekly Bulletin - March 8th, 2019
Lent begins at OLMP!
Lent began this week at OLMP with a pancake breakfast on Shrove Tuesday put on by the Knights of Columbus. The entire school attended Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Francis Parish and students kicked off their Lenten Fundraiser organized by OLMP High School Leadership Students (more info below). Lent is a time of fasting, praying and giving. We hope that you all take the time to reflect on these activities as you move towards self improvement each day and a closer relationship with God.
OLMP Lenten Mother's Day Plant Sales
At OLMP School we do a Lenten fundraiser annually to help an organization in the community and to remind us of the importance of giving up something for the good of others. This year our High School Leadership Students are working to sell a variety of plants that will arrive just before Mother's Day to raise funds for Valeda House and St. Francis Xavier Parish. For more details, photos and the order form that was distributed to all students click the pdf files below.

Technology issues - talk to your children......
Technology use in classrooms at OLMP is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and for the purposes of enhancing the educational experience. Respectful and responsible use is important.
We will have Constable Fernhout, our school Resource Officer in this coming week speaking to students in grade 7-11 about their digital footprint. Please connect with your children about what they are doing online and in social media. Check out the EICS link below for more information that could guide these discussions with your children including a parent checklist you can complete.

OLMP Program Highlight
This week we are highlighting the Drama Program at OLMP. This program has been growing significantly in the past few years under the guidance of an excellent teacher Ms. Desiree De Kock. Ms. D has an extensive background in drama education including a minor in drama at the University of Alberta, courses from The Foote Theatre School at The Citadel Theatre as well as the Theater Garage in Edmonton. She has been in numerous community theatre productions herself and has directed 4 shows at OLMP including the recent 2018 "Treasure Island". Many of her students go on to get roles in local theatre. Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: The Screwtape Letters
Author: C.S.Lewis
Recommended by: Father Mark Bayrock
(Camrose Ukrainian Catholic Church)
Book Description:
Imagine a fictional set of letters outlining a discourse from one Senior devil to Junior devil on the activity of temptation - what works, what goes on in the mind, with a lot of interesting theology along the way.
Why it is recommended:
The author was a prominent athiest for a long time, and a friend of J.R. Tolkein who wrote the Lord of the Rings cycle. His conversion to Christianity was pointed and thoughtful. His book in question was considered a masterpiece. I found it insightful and very entertaining!
