The Main Idea Rap

Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Underhill’s 4th-grade classes at Hilliard Elementary School serenaded parents at their class awards presentation with The Main Idea Rap. They have been using it to learn and practice finding the main idea in nonfiction text passages.

Snow Cone Party

Mrs. Crowder’s first-graders at Yulee Primary School enjoyed snow cones for reaching their AR goals for the first nine-week period. The students loved them and had blue lips and teeth to prove it!

3D Collaboration

Ms. Pinkstaff came to Ms. Lundquist at Callahan Middle School with a desire to create a Pangea model for her 7th-grade science students. Mrs. Lundquist's class received a 3D printer from the Department of Defense. She wanted to figure out how to implement it best to be an even more valuable resource for the science department developing models. She printed topographical images of the continents. Ms. Pinkstaff asked about having them float. Back to the drawing board (aka the printer software), and they altered the fill for the printer and made them less dense, and voila! They had floating continents.

Haunted House of Scent

Mrs. Pittman's Kindergarten class at Callahan Elementary School explored their 5 senses by having a HAUNTED HOUSE OF SENSES! Students could hear skeleton bones breaking (carrots), taste yucky bugs (gushers), smell ogre breath (pickle juice), see slimy worms (spaghetti) and feel a monster's eyeballs (olives!) It was a terrifying and fun hands-on lesson that the students won't soon forget!

Hilliard Middle-Senior High School's Flashes Football and Cheer, along with your Homecoming King and Queen, partnered with Hilliard Elementary School to greet the students with some Flashes School Spirit! Go Flashes!

Barnyard Olympics

The Callahan Middle School volleyball team took first place in the Barnyard Olympics at the Northeast Florida Fair. They competed against Hilliard Middle School and a homeschool group in the middle school division in various activities such as an egg-celent relay, Cowboy Golf, Mad Mother Hen (a balloon pop), and Barnyard Round-Up (corralling balloons with a pool noddle). The girls even had to create the school mascot, The Rambler, from a bag of fruit.

Celebrating Johnny Appleseed Week

Mrs. Robbins' class at Southside Elementary School experimented with apple slices to answer: Why do apples turn brown after they are cut? How can we keep them from turning brown? They graphed their hypothesis to see which liquid they thought would make them not turn brown. Experiment: They set the apples up in the water, milk, vinegar, lemon juice, and oil and leave them for 24 hours. Then, they charted their observations and checked their hypothesis.

Marine Science

In Mrs. Schriver's class at Fernandina Beach High School, the lab discusses how marine and terrestrial organisms are faced with a myriad of environmental pressures. Specific environment. Students in Mrs. Hodge's class at Emma Love Hardee participated in exciting lessons on Digital Citizenship, learning how to balance media, about the Rings of Responsibility, and being a good global citizen.

Yulee Primary Fun Run

The students at Yulee Primary School have spent the past week and a half gathering pledges from their family and friends for donations for our school. On Fun Run Day, the students were able to get out there and run their laps! They had a wonderful time running for their school!
