May 11, 2020: Distance Learning Week 6
Strand Spotlights and Info:
Dear Voyager Families,
It was great to see so many of you of on our parade route on Friday! We love and miss you!
It's so heartening to see so much Voyager community support for one another! We know families are sharing food, childcare, support for families with new babies, and providing other resources and care.
Thank you for continuing to do what is best for your family's health and well-being while managing continued challenges of distance learning and quarantine. Our counselor Sophia Frost is available for social-emotional support, as well as counselors at CORONADO SAFE (see section below), and our MFLC Marie Millard can be reached at 619-592-0093.
This week we celebrated teachers and all staff, as well as school nurses and Child Nutrition Staff! We appreciate the teamwork of our staff supporting all of you at home!
We have some exciting news to share!
First, Focus, a philanthropic community organization, has approved a donation of Chromebooks to SSES. We anticipate adding 12 devices to our site, in our attempts to reach 1:1 at this critical time for students to have access to technology. Thank you, Focus! Second, at the CSF Telethon the Vernetti family, longtime supporters of CUSD, earmarked $10,000 for SSES! It will be exciting to determine as a school community and CSF the most effective use of those funds.
Top News:
Our district's approach to preparing for next year is to plan for all possibilities, including a continuation of distance learning AND a plan for inviting all students and staff back to campus with class lists and a bell schedule prepared. We know there are MANY uncertainties and questions. Our preparations will include:
- Launching registration to determine student enrollment
- Planning for staffing
- Determining consistent online platforms and best practices for instruction
- Determining most appropriate curriculum for distance delivery with evolution to physical classroom learning in mind

OUR THEME FOR THE WEEK is OPTIMISM: A spirit of positivity and hope for and faith in a healthier future keeps us going when our spirits falter. Find reasons to smile and lift others!
