Adler Gazette

It's a great day to be a Gator! (OCTOBER EDITION)

From the Principal's Desk

It is hard to believe we are just about to jump into November! With even less sunlight and seemingly less time every day, I appreciate you reading this newsletter and checking in on Adler Park.

If your student has not already told you, our playground has some new equipment thanks to the AFA. This has been a big topic of discussion amongst the kids. Orchestra for fourth and fifth grade is now in full swing and music is filling the hallways.

Our building-wide Halloween celebration will be taking place on Monday (10/31). Please feel free to come to Adler at 12:25 to see your student participate in our costume parade! Park in the front of the building or at the Adler pool and walk to the back playground. After lunch, students will walk the halls and circle the blacktop on the playground (weather permitting).

Pack your student’s costume in their backpack or a separate bag–they do not wear their costumes to school. Students may wear masks but make sure that they can safely walk in the parade if wearing a mask. Costumes should not be violent in nature and no types of weapons are not permitted.

We are looking forward to seeing the kids in their costumes and celebrating the spooky season!

Veterans Day Assembly on November 11

We are excited to celebrate our Veterans together on Nov. 11 during an all-school assembly. Students will be singing songs, hearing speeches, and meeting real-life veterans! If you or someone close to the Adler community is a veteran and would like to participate in the assembly, please use the RSVP link here.

Adler Remote Learning Plan

As the weather grows colder, we need to think about remote learning possibilities. If an emergency day is used, your student may need to join a Google Meet with their school device. If you do not have a school device at home, there are other ways to access Google Meets. Please email your classroom teacher for a direct link to the meeting.

Otherwise, please take a look at the attached document HERE. This gives step-by-step directions on how to access Google Meets and your student’s direct classroom code.

Strategic Plan

Are you interested in sharing your opinion and helping build D70? As we begin our strategic long-range planning process for the next five years, Libertyville School District 70 is asking staff, parents/guardians, and community members to share their feedback through a strategic planning survey. This survey will assist District 70 in making decisions about the future.

Please fill out one survey for each school your children attend. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete. This anonymous survey is not collecting emails or names. Please reply by Nov. 4.

A Note from the Nurse

If you consented for Shield's asymptomatic screening this year, you will have noticed kits coming home in your child(ren)'s backpacks. One kit can be returned to school each Tuesday. Please remind your child(ren) to drop it off in the bin in the lobby, Tuesday morning, when they arrive. Let me know if you have any questions!

Community Safety Parent Event

November 2nd at 7:00 pm District 70 is co-hosting a parent event on community safety. D70 & D128 are hosting two speakers that will focus on ways we can be safe as a community. April Oboikowitch from Be SMART will be presenting to parents on safe gun storage. Bruno Dias from the Department of Homeland Security will review the importance of threat assessment within our community and ways we can work together on safety. More information will be sent out in the coming days about this evening event.

Student Activities and Ways to Get Involved

Maker Monday Update

Maker Mondays are back and registration for 3rd and 4th grade is OPEN! During each Maker Monday meeting, students will have access to all of the amazing materials available in our Design Lab. Nothing will be off limits as they will let their creativity and innovative ideas take flight! They will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create and build as they choose.

There is no cost to participate. Maker Monday is an after school club that will meet from 2:45-3:45 pm on Mondays.

There is a limit to the number of students per grade level, and a lottery system has been implemented to ensure equal access to registration.

4th Grade - registration is open! (November 14, 21, 28, December 5)
3rd Grade - registration is open! (December 12, 19, January 30, February 6)

2nd Grade, 1st Grade and Kindergarten - please read this parent letter for more information and watch this space for registration to open.

Student Council Update

Thank you to everyone who purchased Halloween toys at our fundraiser! We sold out more quickly than we ever have before and are so grateful for your support. We will have another fundraiser (or two!) later this year.

With the proceeds, we are going to purchase milkweed seeds to help Monarch butterflies that live or pass through Libertyville on their annual migration. The seeds will be available for free for any interested family to plant at home. Click here for more information and to sign up for your free milkweed seeds!

LEGO in the Library

LEGO in the Library starts for all grade levels the week of November 14! This optional lunch recess alternative as the weather gets colder is available one day a week for each grade level. Advanced sign up is not required, so students can simply decide on the day if they want to attend.

4th and 5th grade - Monday

K and 2nd grade - Tuesday

1st and 3rd grade - Thursday

I am excited to see the creative builds they come up with this year!
