In 2012, 5.5% of people in the United States ages 18-25 said they were current users. About 1 million people ages 12 and up started using smokeless tobacco in the year before the survey, and about 46% of the new users were younger than 18 when they tried it for the first time.
Health risk
Smokeless tobacco can give you cancer in the mouth, tongue, cheeks, gums, and throat. You may also have a possible increase in risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes.
