“Labarron goes above and beyond! He always comes to our sessions on time and ready to get started. He is eager to read and respond to questions and is always a helpful friend in breakout rooms.”
Middle School Student of the Year
Brittni Smoak
Brittni has been chosen as the CASC middle school student of the year. Not only does Brittni take 4 courses for High school credit as well as two 8th grade courseS, but she participates in junior beta club, girl scouts, and plays soccer two seasons out of the year. She does all of this while maintaining an 85 or higher average in all of her courses. That means that Brittni will have 4 hs credits by the end of the 8th grade. Way to go Brittni!
High School Student of the Year
Mystrength Joi Oestricher
Amidst this transition in her life, Joi has managed to achieve perfect attendance, excellent grades, and works exceptionally hard to be prepared for future years of success in school! She was nominated for Student of the Year by multiple member of the faculty and staff.
Joi has gone above and beyond in all areas and is committed to preserving the accomplishment she has achieved so far this year!
K-5 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Kerns
Is so deserving of the honor of being our teacher of the year this year! Not only does she teach all of the 5th grade ELA and Social Studies classes, but she also has taken on the added responsibility of teaching ALP classes for our Gifted and Talented K-5 students. She cares tremendously about each of her students and their families. She is not only committed to her students, but also to her colleagues. As a mentor teacher she has given up her time to help our new teachers in their transition to virtual education. She is a wonderful person to work with and such a positive influence on everyone around her.
Middle School Teacher of the Year! Ms. Whitlock
She goes above and beyond every single day to help her students. She genuinely cares about them and finds ways to make lessons fun and engaging. She is always positive and kind to her students and co-workers, and creates such a positive, happy atmosphere.
High School Teacher of the Year! Ms. Eckstorm
“Fearless to try new things, encouraging students and others to think outside the box. Achievement is often accomplished by a series of mistakes one learns from, she welcomes (with great enthusiasm), students who try by making those mistakes and learning from them.”
Support Staff of the Year:Cheryn Decatur
She works hard as a compliancy liaison. She cares about our students and is always willing to go above and beyond to help them.

CLEVER WAYS TO TEACH ABOUT GIVING
PLAY BOARD GAMES OR ONLINE GAMES
Kids not only identify with games and find them fun to play, but games get kids thinking about the choices they make and the consequences of those decisions.
Some games that have a charitable giving component include:
- Bank It! www.Simplyfun.com for ages 6 and up
- Thrive Time www.thrivetimegame.com for ages 13 and up
- Cash Flow 101 www.cashflowboardgame.com for ages 14 and up
- Stage Coach Island http://blog.wellsfargo.com/stagecoachisland/ for ages 14 and up
Parents can play the board games with their children and ask questions about the giving components. “Why do you think the game wants you to give back to the community?” “How do you feel about that?” And whatever other questions might be appropriate or come up during game play.
