Notice to Parents 9-28-18
September 28, 2018
Dear Martin Middle School Families,
This morning during an Eastside Memorial ECHS cross-country run practice, a man exposed himself to a student running in a neighborhood of Martin Middle School.
The incident was reported to Austin Police and is under investigation.
The student is safe, and we commend her for reporting the incident so quickly. If you or your children see anything or anyone suspicious, please contact the AISD Police Department at 512-414-1703.
We want to take this opportunity to remind you of safety tips you can discuss with your students:
- Use the buddy system. Students should take friends with them when going places or playing outside.
- Remind students to check first with a parent, guardian or other trusted adult before going anywhere, helping anyone, accepting anything or getting in a car.
- If a stranger approaches a child, the child should take several steps backward, stay out of arm’s reach and run to a safe area. If students are confronted, they should be taught to scream, “I’m not your child,” or “You’re not my parent.” Many times children forget to scream.
Remind children to avoid alleys and empty lots, houses or garages. Students should use direct routes between school and home when walking.
Please feel free to contact me at 512-414-3243 if you have any questions or concerns. As always, we appreciate your support of our students and staff at Martin Middle School.
Sincerely,
Principal Monica De La Garza-Conness

Atentamente,
Directora Mónica De la Garza-Conness
