Proposed State Bills that You May Want to Read
Below are some links to proposed Bills in Texas that may affect your deaf education. Please take a minute to read these bills.
The Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was a great success. We had 13 speakers ranging from 5th-12th grade. They were from both center based and itinerant. Thank you for encouraging your students to participate. Thanks Cindy Williams for being in charge of the contest for our RDSPD. She wrote, "I am not sure who benefits more: the students, the teachers, the families, or the Optimist Club members. It is always such a pleasure to hear how different students approach the provided topic. I do not know all the students who participated personally, but it takes less than the 4-5 minutes of a speech to realize how special they all are. We have a pretty great "job" that allows us to spend our careers encouraging and developing trusting relationships with such unique people (I guess I should add the teaching piece)." Thanks to all of you who have taught and supported our students. They are a great bunch of kids.

PRDSPD Training/ Special Education Training
There are still a few teachers who need to complete the required Bran Based Learning Training. It is part of our 2016-2017 learning series and is required of teachers and SLPs. To access the training go to https://www.smore.com/zuwpd.
Due to the additional training required by Special Education, The Executive Function training is now optional. I urge you to take the time to learn about executive function and how you can incorporate strategies in your lessons to help your students develop their executive function. If the training is completed after hours, then I can give you PD hours. To access the Executive Function Training go to https://www.smore.com/np432.
Special Education is requiring that you do three of their modules. They are accessed at
- Elementary - https://www.smore.com/apwrx
- Secondary - https://www.smore.com/2rrbx
These Special Education modules are a requirement from Special Ed. as part of our the Plano ISD's PBMAS plan.
