Welcome Back from Principal Darden

Dear TME Family,

As school begins tomorrow and we embark on this journey that we began in the Spring, I want to encourage each of us to breathe, have patience toward one another, and show grace to one another. It goes without saying these are difficult and troubled times we live in, and it is vitally important that we breathe, have patience, and show grace to another, but more importantly, teach and grant patience and grace to our babies.

Our motto this school year is, “Intertwined in Legacy and History at TME. A Good Trouble School.” The inspiration stems from the global pandemics of the novel coronavirus, and the American pandemic of systemic racism. It is time, past time, that we wrap our arms around our children collectively. That is why our school is a village school. No one is alone. No one can afford to be. The African Proverb reads, “It take a village to raise a child.”. It is time that we use our schools to bridge not only academic gaps, but community gaps as well, and become the village that we must be. Yes, you may have your children, but they are all OUR children, and we all have a vested interest in their life outcomes.

As an institution of learning, we will keep our promises to our children, our staff, and our community. We may not get it right the first time, and we may, but know, that we will get it right. We will get in “good trouble” because we will not settle in mediocrity for our children’s futures. At TME, we will idolize and revere our children as the ancestor’s did. We will teach and guide them on the path of intelligence, righteousness, belonging, servitude, self-love, and purpose. This is our collectively obligation to our children. Our children are our legacy, and history we are intertwined in. How we respond to these pandemics for the benefit our children will decide how favorably history looks up on us, or if it looks favorably upon us at all.

It is an honor to lead this institution of learning during this season, with this consortium of stakeholders.

With Love,

Principal Darden
