ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.

Science
We still love our WEATHER! This season is showing us all sorts of precipitation!
We took our test over the Water Cycle and Weather. Your student can request a redo form from their teacher if they want to increase their score.
We are continuing our weather pattern (pun intended) as we investigate ways to predict the hazardous events!
English
Welcome to” Thanksgiving Break Eve Week”!. This week we are taking what we have learned about dependent and independent clauses, and we are practicing correct comma usage. We will have a test this Friday over sentence fragments, run-on sentences, recognizing clauses, and comma usage.

Literacy
Hello Thunderhawks!
We have been really focusing on grammar and mechanics in the past week. We will use Maya Angelou’s poem, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me to continue our focus on sentence fragments, sentences, and subject/predicate agreement. As we read and learn to recognize the elements of a poem, we will also be using the poem’s lines to create complete sentences and correct sentence fragments. We will have a sentence fragments quiz on Thursday, November 10th, and we will have a test next Wednesday over fragments, subject/predicate agreement and run-on sentences.

6th Grade Math
This week we worked on conversions with Fractions, Decimals and Percents. After Thanksgiving Break we will take our Unit 4 test and move on to Unit 5.
Please check in with your student to make sure they are completing the 2 or 3 homework assignments that we give per week. Homework notes generally take less than 15 minutes and is something they can do independently. There is a homework notes assignment that is Due Monday.
Need Help in Math? Here’s what you can do:
Come see your math teacher during pre-advisory (7:10-7:40)
Come do a working lunch. (There is always 1 math teacher available during that time to offer help).
6th Grade IA Pre-Algebra
This week we worked on solving percent problems using proportions. After Thanksgiving we will move on to solving multi-step problems involving percent increase or decrease, discounts, tips and sales tax

Geography
Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break ThunderHawks! We hope your break was full of rest, time with family, and good food. Going into Thanksgiving Break, our students finished up their Document Based Questions (DBQ) Assignment and started doing lots of work with their Desk Atlases. Students participated in scavenger hunts where they looked all through their Desk Atlases for the answers to the clues! Coming back from Thanksgiving Break students will begin their Foundations of Geography Project. For this project, students will be given a country and will research all about this country. We will work on this project all week long, and it will be due by the end of the day on Friday.

Message for 6th Grade Principal
Hello Thunderhawk Family!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for at Heartland and at the top of that list are our amazing students. This time between now and winter break is going to be busy, but filled with learning, laughter and lots of holiday cheer!
Starting December 1st, we will be “Decking the Heartland Halls!” This includes dress up days every day. We love seeing all the student involvement on these days.
Missing assignment incentive is underway! Students with no missing assignments will receive a sundae party! The fewer the missing assignments, the more toppings the student will recieve!
As colder weather moves in, please remember that we will go outside if the temperature is above 35 degrees, so please dress accordingly! Blankets are not allowed! If they come to school, they must be kept in their backpack.
Please remember to not bring your valuables to school! It is very hard to track down lost/stolen property. With that being said, please do not bring trading cards (Pokemon or anything else) to school. If it is for trading cards hawk hangout, then please only bring the ones you’d trade or be willing to part with!
Tardy sweeps are still a thing! It is very important that students are using their time wisely and getting to class on time!
Students please remember that it is YOUR responsibility to advocate for yourselves. Now is the time to start asking teachers about your grades and missing assignments. What can YOU do to improve? Math teachers always offer working lunch for math, but it is up to the student to ask to attend. Also, students are all given missing assignment reports on Mondays. Use this to your advantage to know what you’re missing. Once you complete the assignment that is missing, let your teacher know! Also, do not be afraid to ask teachers questions!
I’ll be looking for students that I can hand out a Heartland High 5 to! Remember, these put your name in a bucket to be drawn during announcements. These students will receive a special prize.
Let's make it a great week, Thunderhawks!

Fall tips:
Simplify your life, slow down for self-care this fall.
Go outside! Get some fresh air and go for a walk,
Breathe and Breathe again! Breathe in for four seconds, hold your breath for four , breathe out for five seconds can signal to your body that you are in control and choosing to calm down. You can also download an app, such as “Pause” for meditation and there is a “Calm” app for breathing techniques.
You are now in the 2nd 9 weeks; be sure to keep up with your school work. Ask questions if you don’t understand a question.
