Enrollment Is Open For The 2018-19 School Year For *New* Parents
(If you want your student(s) to continue at Thornhill, there's nothing to do at this time!)
Hey! Did you hear? It's not even Thanksgiving, yet, and it's already time to enroll your new child for the 2018-19 school year. I mean, what with planning for Turkey Day, scheduling time for your child's parent-teacher conference and getting ready for Christmas and the Holiday Season, you probably don't have anything else going on now, right?
Whether your student will be transitioning to a new school next year or will remain at his/her current school, you'll find all the enrollment information you need at ousd.org/enroll.

Vote for the Auction Theme!
The annual Thornhill Auction is just three months way, on Feb. 24. Have you got your auction attire ready? Do you have your own bidding paddle?
Well, every year, the auction has a theme to it, and now is your time to vote on what you think this year's theme should be. We are using Konstella to collect responses and you can rank up to 5 choices in order. Pick from these amazing submissions:
007 James Bond
Broadway
Bubbles
Cruise Ship / Love Boat
Green (tying into sustainability)
Heroes and Villains
Las Vegas
Masquerade
Old Hollywood
Roaring 20s
Rock Around the Clock (50s)
Wild West
Who knows? Maybe we'll get as much auction action as Christie's did for Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" this week? An auctioneer can dream, right?
We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the auction on Saturday, February 24!

No. No, it is not. So, with that in mind...If you need a gift for the person who has everything, you can't go wrong with popcorn!
The 2nd annual Thornhill Popcorn Sale is here. Not only do you get a tasty treat, but 50 percent of all sales goes to the Thornhill PFC to support everything that makes our school great like gym, the library, music and art, our fabulous teacher aides, and so much more.

Important dates to remember:
Wednesday, December 6 - All order forms and payments are due back to your child's teacher or to the box in the school office.

Library News
Happy Thanksgiving!
This week the students and I are exploring the meaning of Thanksgiving and learning about some of the important people, including Squanto, that were at the first Thanksgiving. We are having fun reading stories about turkeys that avoid being Thanksgiving dinner. We are also watching videos about the true story of Plymouth Rock, and we are discovering the reasons why people still come to America just like the pilgrims did.
Donations
Thank you to James Yokomizo and family for donating yet another wonderful title from the Wish List, Going Places. We also have a beautiful new bench in the library! Many thanks to Samantha and Brady Hall and family for donating this wonderful place for our students to read!
I’m hoping to get one more bench so that we can make a cozy corner reading nook. You can find the bench and all kinds of books and supplies that we need on the Thornhill Library Amazon Wish List. If you donate directly from the Amazon Wish List, make sure to add a gift note with your student’s name included. Thank you again to all of our donors.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Maura Hennessy
Librarian

The next TK and Kindergarten tours are on the horizon. We need six parents to help out on Dec. 5 & 6 from 8:45-10:30 a.m. However, if you can't stay for the tour but can help with coffee/goodies set-up, that would be helpful as it is just 20 to 30 minutes right around morning drop-off. Thanksgiving Break
At that time, President Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November to be a day of thanks in an effort to foster national unity during the Civil War. Eventually, the holiday was changed to the fourth Thursday in November. Whether your family is staying at home, or heading out of town for the holiday, may you use this time to give thanks for all that brings you together. And may we all remember that unity will always win out over division.
