CA Update 2/7/16

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

The R.A.K. Foundation has declared February 14 - 20 as Random Acts of Kindness week. Although it might seem silly to declare a week for RAK, it is very important for us to put first things first by taking care of our own wellness but it also equally important for us to look beyond ourselves. Doing something be it small for another person can leave a lasting impact on both the giver and the receive of such an action.

So I ask ... for all of us to "Be Brave" and commit to at least one RAK this week and next. if we all do just one RAK we can impact the entire community.

Presidential Scholars

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.

Each year the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the US Department of Education select approximately 4,000 candidates based on SAT and ACT scores. Candidates are invited to apply to become a Presidential Scholar.

CA Seniors Bridget Grimm and Monica Morgan have both been selected as a candidates for the US Presidential Scholars Program. Both students were recognized at Thursday night's Board of Education meeting for their outstanding accomplishments.

Attention Parents of Gemini Students

Last week I sent out a notice on the 1098 tax form that is being sent out to parents of students who took a Gemini class. This form indicates you paid tuition to FLCC.

The 1098T forms should have two numbers on them. One for the tuition and one in the scholarship box which reflects the tuition the district paid. The tuition may be tax deductible, depending on the number of credits the student took. If you have questions, you should consult a tax accountant or the FLCC One Stop Office at 585-785-1000.
