May – Month of Mary Prayer
Dear and sweet Mother Mary,
keep your holy hand upon us;
guard our minds, our hearts and our senses,
that we may never commit sin.
Sanctify our thoughts, affections, words and actions,
so that we may please you and your Jesus,
our God, and reach heaven with you.
Jesus and Mary, give us your blessing.
Amen
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
I trust that all Mothers and Mother figures, were deservedly celebrated and spoilt on Sunday. A very big thank you to our fabulous P&F who sold the most amazing gifts for Mother’s Day. I am sure you appreciated the quality of whatever gift your child chose to buy for you. Thank you to the many P&F mums who set up and ran the stall on Friday last week. We are truly blessed by the generous gift of your time.
This week I spent some time in the Pre-Primary classrooms. I was so impressed by the diverse range of engaging literacy activities for the children. They were enthusiastic about writing letters on pebbles in chalk to make words and jumping out the sounds in a word on the brickpaving.
Healthy Food
We have noticed that an increasing number of students are bringing lollies to school to eat at recess and lunch. Lollies should not be sent to school as a lunchbox item. Many children are also bringing fast food to school, like burgers and chips. We teach children about healthy food and we ask families to support this learning through healthy food choices for school lunchboxes. Fast food should not be sent to school for lunch.
We have informed children that our school is a chewing gum free zone. There is to be no chewing gum brought onto the school premises. We ask families to support us with this rule.
Naplan
This week our Year 3 and 5 students are writing their NAPLAN tests. I have been so impressed by the calm way they have all approached these assessments. A big thank you must go to Mrs Henery, Mr Rafferty, Ms Smith and Ms Challis for preparing the students so well.
Lunch Survey
After surveying our parents and carers, students and staff, the overwhelming majority expressed that they would like children to eat first and then play. This new procedure will start on Monday Week 4.
Uniform Survey
We have been receiving many responses to our uniform survey. The survey closes on Friday this week. Don’t pass up the opportunity to have your opinions heard. Click here to take the uniform survey.
Covid
The virus is still present in our school community, as it is in the broader community. I ask that families please keep sick children at home and test them for Covid. If your child tests positive, please remember to report their positive result to the government (link below) and report the result to us by completing the CEWA Self-Reporting form (link below).
Year 6 Mass on Friday
On Friday, the Year 6 students will celebrate Mass. All parents and carers are invited to attend this Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Parish at 9am with us.
Farewell Mr Marks
We say a sad farewell to Mr Marks, who has been a wonderful addition to our staff. We wish him all the very best in his new career.
Reflection
May is the month of Mary. Mary is our spiritual Mother, she cares for all of us and we can call on her help through prayer. I would encourage all families to pray the Hail Mary together during the month of May.
“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen.”
God bless you all.
