Bus Driver and Monitor Appreciation Week
The Clarke County School District is so incredibly thankful to our Bus Drivers and Monitors for the superb work they do day in and day out -- this team transports the most important people in the county -- our students!. Every year, we celebrate their talents and contributions during National School Bus Safety Week (Oct. 18-21).
Without question, they take tremendous pride in safely transporting our students to and from school. In fact, our entire Transportation Department personnel is also recognized for its role in keeping our vehicles up and running safe and sound. They are extremely dedicated to their work, and we could not be more grateful that they are part of the CCSD family!
Please join us in thanking our bus drivers, monitors, and all our other transportation staff for their commitment, hard work, and always placing our students' safety as job #1!

CCSD Participates in "Day of Caring"
Team members from CCSD's Community Engagement and Strategic Partnership Division rolled up their sleeves in the United Way of Northeast Georgia's Day of Caring service project campaign, in which local organizations pitch in to help improve parts of our community.
They rolled up their sleeves to support an exterior beautification project at the Athens Area Homeless Shelter and organized and cleaned closets at a clothing drive for the Athens Community Career Academy's Career Closet. It was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with our partners and put into action our belief that we are "Better Together!"

E-SPLOST: Polls Open for Voters Decision on CCSD Projects
Clarke County voters have the opportunity now to vote on the continuation of the one-penny, Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) that would fund critical capital improvement projects across the Clarke County School District.
E-SPLOST 6 is a continuation of the 1-cent sales tax that Clarke County voters have approved five times since 1997 to fund new school buildings, classrooms, new buses, technology upgrades, and more for Clarke County students, teachers, administrators, and support staff.
“Our goal is safe, secure, and functional facilities and ones that support all of the programming and the students and staff in our schools,” said John Gilbreath, director of facility planning and construction for the Clarke County School District.
If approved, E-SPLOST 6 would last up to five years and is estimated to generate $120 million for the school district. Some of the planned projects include a new Clarke Middle, renovations at Cedar Shoals High, and renovations, additions, and improvements at Gaines, Alps, and Cleveland Road Elementary Schools. Other monies collected from E-SPLOST 6 would go toward other infrastructure upgrades in our custodial, nutrition, security, transportation, and technology services.
Projects funded by E-SPLOST 6 would benefit every CCSD school in one way or another.
Almost 60% of E-SPLOST monies are paid by people who visit Athens-Clarke County, which includes attendees to UGA football games, students attending the university, and many others who shop, stay, dine, or receive services here.
“With the support of the University of Georgia and the support of other people who visit our county, that’s an added bonus,” Gilbreath said.
Early voting is open now and runs through Oct. 29. Election Day is Nov. 2, and polling hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more E-SPLOST information, visit https://tinyurl.com/ESPLOSTccsd.
