What's Happening in Kindergarten?
Week of August 31st
Here is a glimpse of what Miss Keeley's Kindergarten Kiddos explored this past week!
Language Arts
This week was all about Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! The students listened to the text numerous times, and completed many activities that were extensions of the book. By the end of the week, all the students were reading it along with Miss Keeley!
Math
The students started their first week by playing number games and beginning their study of numbers #1, 2, 3.
Phonics
The students met twice this week with Miss Keeley and their Phonics academic groups. During this time we worked on guided, small group, activities.
Handwriting
The students met twice this week with Miss Keeley and their handwriting academic groups. During this time we practiced making the designated letters with wooden pieces, and worked in our workbooks.
Kid Writing & Journals
The students began Kid Writing in their journals this week! At the beginning of each day, the students, as a whole group, work with Miss Keeley while she demonstrates how to draw a detailed & colorful picture, and a simple sentence to accompany it. Then, the students use their own journals to copy what they observed Miss Keeley doing. This is the daily Kid Writing process for the first few weeks of school.
Social Studies & Science
The focus of Social Studies this week was family. The students completed numerous activities and discussions that studied their own families, as well as other families.
