Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Aron Ralston

"During a hike into the remote Utah canyon-lands Aron Ralston, a twenty-seven-year-old mountaineer and outdoors man found himself in his element with just the beauty of the natural world around him. Then, at 2:41 p.m., eight miles from his truck, in a deep and narrow slot canyon, an eight-hundred boulder tumbled loose, pinning Aron's right hand and wrist against the canyon wall."

Book Rating

On a scale of 1-5, 1 being the worst, I rate this book a 4. I choose this rating because how Aron describes the events in this book makes you feel as if you experienced what he experienced. People that might like this book might like stories that include survival or the outdoors.
Aron Ralston's Real Video Footage (One Clip - Aron Ralston)

Passage No. 1

The first passage I choose was the one when Aron broke his bones. I choose this because it shows how desperate he was to get out that he would do anything.

"I put my left hand under the boulder..." (280).

Passage No. 2

The second passage I choose was when Aron was cutting through his arm. I choose this because I found it very disturbing but very interesting.

"Withdrawing my bloody fingers..." (281).

"There is also a pale white nerve strand..." (284).

Surprising Detail

Something that surprised me was that Aron cut off his arm. This surprised me because up to that point, he kept saying how he would never have the courage to cut off his own arm.

"What are you doing, Aron?" (106).
