Richland Reflections

Week of 9/21/20 at Richland Elementary School

Big picture
We've missed you! Thank you parents and families for preparing your children to respect and adhere to Health and Safety protocol. We are so proud of our students for wearing masks and following these practices this week. It allowed for a great start of making connections and feeling safe and comfortable. More thanks to parents and families for your support with virtual learning! We are thrilled to foster classroom community both near and far.

I am also so thankful for our teachers and staff! Richland staff have been working tirelessly to prepare for the start of school, and we are so happy to connect with your children in person and virtually. Please keep communication open and reach out to teachers with any questions.

We are reminded from our Leader in Me work to focus on our circle of influence and on things we can control. It is with that focus that we are assured we will have a great year knowing we are in this together!

Be well!

We are entering another year of embracing the Leader in Me philosophy at Richland and there has never been a better time to lean into leadership. Content from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a key component of The Leader in Me. The 7 Habits is a combination of universal, timeless principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness, such as responsibility, vision, integrity, teamwork, collaboration and renewal, which are secular in nature and common to all people and cultures. The 7 Habits are taught to students in an age-appropriate format within The Leader in Me process. Read more about this at

We support students as leaders, teachers and staff as leaders, and parents and guardians as leaders. There's a leader in us ALL! It's often students who take the initiative when they see a need and work to address it. This year, we will continue to have a student leadership team with representatives from each grade level, and we look forward to students and families helping us lead the way!

Attendance is mandatory for school age children, and the live portion of our school day is 9:00-2:00, with additional time allotted for work after these hours.

Every day Monday through Friday is a school day.

On days when students are in person, attendance will be taken as in the past, and students will be marked absent if they are not physically present.

Attendance will be taken daily. When learning virtuallty, all students are to complete their "check-in" activity as explained by their teachers by 2:00 daily. To allow for the completion of work asynchronously, students may complete other school activities after 2:00, but the check-in must be completed by 2:00 in order to be marked as present.

You will receive an email after 2:00 on the day your child is marked absent. The school must receive an excuse from you within 3 days of the absence.

New this year, you may respond to the email with your absence reason. If you prefer, you may send in an absence note to the office. All excuses must be received within 3 days of the absence.
