Caruso Connect - October 7
Caruso Middle School is an inclusive and vibrant community where Blue Jays take ownership of their social-emotional and academic growth by supporting, challenging, and celebrating self and others.
Good Evening Blue Jay Families:
In this week's Caruso Connect please make sure to check to see who our Blue Jays of the week are! As a reminder, anyone can nominate a member of our staff for this award. Please use the link below!!!!
Staff Nomination Form (Due Thursday, end of day)
We are also asking that for those who are waiting in front of the school to pick up/drop off students to please not block the crosswalk that leads to the bike parking/trail. Students have to walk around the car without being able to see if another car is coming in the other lane and this is creating a potentially dangerous situation.
We hope that you enjoy your long weekend.

8th Grade Release of Information for Deerfield High School
(Communicated 10/6/22 via email)
8th Grade Parents/Guardians,
To assist with your child’s transition to high school, DHS requests information from Shepard and Caruso Middle School, such as demographic information, standardized test data, and grades. To exchange this information about your child, we must obtain consent from you and your child. The parental form is now available in your Family Access account in Skyward. It is titled “Permission to Release/Exchange Info - 8th Grade. The completion of this form should only take a couple of minutes. You will provide some directory information (school, name, date of birth, contact info) and an electronic signature. To begin working with the high school, we are asking that all families complete this form no later than Friday, October 14th .
Once parental consent is completed, we will also collect student consent during ExSEL on Wednesday, October 19th.
Here is a little information about the 8th grade to high school process that occurs over the next few months:
DHS Administrators and Department Chairs provide the middle school with updates regarding courses.
8th grade teachers discuss the freshman year course options with students. For students who receive special education services, additional communication will occur between the family and the case manager.
The DHS Program of Studies is updated online, providing details about all courses.
DHS hosts Curriculum Nights for incoming freshmen and their parents/guardians.
9th grade schedules and course placements are finalized by the high school.
We look forward to supporting your child at this important time in their education. Please be sure to login to Skyward Family Access and complete the form as soon as possible.

Caruso Halloween Guidelines
(Communicated 10/7/22)
Caruso welcomes students to express their creative side and dress for Halloween while in school on Monday, October 31st. However, the following criteria are in place to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
Families should have full knowledge of what their child will wear for school on October 31st.
Students should not wear costumes that turn someone’s identity into a stereotype.
Students can only apply make-up, spray colored hairspray, or put on costumes at home.
Students will not be permitted to wear any type of mask or any other costume that will obstruct the learning environment at school.
School rules for dress will apply. Students should not wear anything that has a sexual connotation or would be considered inappropriate dress.
Students should respect political views and religious beliefs.
Costumes that promote graphic violence are not permitted.
Students should not use costume props of a violent nature, such as toy guns, toy knives, and/or toy swords, to name a few.
Please be mindful of the impact of group costumes. We want to promote the social-emotional well-being of all students. If your child is participating in a group costume, please remind them to consider others and not intentionally exclude anyone.
