Arts Advocacy Day - January 22, 2020
The Iowa Alliance for Arts Education is sponsoring the sixth annual Arts Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Des Moines on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. The Alliance is currently recruiting advocates to attend this event.
Advocates will have the opportunity to speak directly to legislators on the importance of arts education in our state and advance the arts education legislative agenda. Advocacy Day will begin with a training session at 8:00 a.m., followed by the opening of Iowa House/Senate where the current Miss Iowa Emily Tinsman (former IAAE advocate) will sing the national anthem. The rest of the morning will be spent with visits to your assigned legislators. IAAE will provide lunch at noon with entertainment. In the afternoon, there will be IAAE presentations to the House and Senate Education Committees featuring the Johnson STEAM Academy from Cedar Rapids, participants in the IAAE mentoring program and Emily Tinsman.
If you would be willing to be an arts advocate, you can register on the IAAE website or by clicking the link below.
If you are a Sioux City Community School District Employee you will need to visit with your principal and request leave if this is something that you are interested in.
Instruments for Band and Orchestra
Instruments for Life - Donate an Instrument to Sioux City Community Schools
The value of the arts in education is something that the Board and the District take very seriously. The District feels that every child deserves the chance to play a musical instrument. Studies have shown that making music improves the quality of a student’s education and helps teach skills necessary for success later in life. The Board appreciates donations of musical instruments, however, all instrument donations must be evaluated and approved prior to being accepted. Please contact Pat Toben at 712.279.6667 Ext. 6061. Here is the link to the form that is used for donating instruments: https://www.siouxcityschools.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/665-Musical-Instrument-Donation-Request-Form.pdf
