Public Hearing to Discuss the 2023 - 24 Budget and Proposed Tax Rate
Chief Financial Officer Robert Navarro presented the 2023 - 24 fiscal year budget and proposed tax rate. Following his presentation, the public was invited to speak. No one from the public did.
Communication and Informational Items:
- Superintendent Dr. Toni Hicks presented monthly student outcomes
- Executive Director of Human Resources Bob Mabry presented the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) update to Local Policy 121 for board review
- Sledge Engineering presented the monthly 2021 and the 2023 Bond Update
Action Items:
In addition to the consent agenda, the board approved the following:
- The Fiscal Year 2023 - 24 General Fund Budget, Food Service Budget, and the Debt Service Budget
- An order authorizing the issuance, sale, and delivery of Jarrell ISD Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds
- The 2023 - 24 Staff Compensation Guide
- Schematic design for the new middle school
- 2023 Bond Construction Delivery Methods
- The Early Head Start program
- An amendment to the District of Innovation Plan
- The purchase of JISD Police Cars

Jarrell ISD Launches an Early Head Start Program
At the June 21, 2023, school board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved starting an Early Head Start Program. Families who qualify can have their children attend the program from birth up to three years of age.
You qualify for Early Head Start services if your family's income is at or below the federal poverty level.
Other circumstances that may qualify your child for services:
- You are experiencing homelessness.
- You have children in foster care.
- You are receiving TANF or SSI.
Jarrell ISD is partnering with Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties to implement the program. As part of the district's agreement, the agency is paying for all costs associated with the program, including the staff, furniture, and learning materials. Jarrell ISD is only providing the space.
The district plans to launch the program for the 23 - 24 school year in August. For more information about the program, visit Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties. Jarrell ISD will release more details in the coming weeks.

Farmers Market at JISD
The Farmers Market at JISD, is the first Saturday of every month. You'll receive fresh produce for free! It's open to anyone at no cost to you!
It is at 508 N 5th St from 9 to 11 am.
