Supporting all Learners
Effective ways to reach all students in your classes
Effectively supporting all students makes classrooms better for all of us!
Below is a step-by-step guide to supporting Special Education in your practice:
It's not always easy to know what to do when you have so many unique learners in your classroom, but here's where you start...
- go into our school's shared drive
- click on the Special Education file
- look at our list of students with IEPs (please note they are conveniently sorted by teacher name)
- look at whether the student is identified or non-identified in the column on the far right
- read the IEP accommodations page that was put in your mailbox or email me for another copy (or I can send you instructions of how to access IEPs digitally)
- pay particular attention the the student's "strengths and needs" as well as the accommodations that work best for him/her - they are your keys to success this semester!
Once you have an idea of how your students might struggle, you can...
- contact one of us in Special Education to support your teaching practice with ideas, information, and strategies
- you can refer to the website below that is INCREDIBLY useful for everything you might want to know about Spec Ed (but are afraid to ask)
How to use that site...
The "Glossary" tab is your best friend! It has everything in there from strategies to diagnoses. It offers characteristics about the search term (ie. aggression management) as well as numerous instructional, environmental, and assessment strategies and additional sources. Aside from us, it's the next best one-stop-shop!
Please ask for help! That's what we're here for.
